๐Ÿซ Donโ€™t ignore breathlessness or a persistent cough.

A cough lasting more than 2 weeks, frequent breathlessness, or reduced stamina should not be overlooked. Timely evaluation and lung function tests like PFTs can support early diagnosis and better disease control.

Early detection is not just good care โ€” it is safer care.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Share your voice to help identify patient safety gaps in NCD care.

๐Ÿซ Diagnostic gaps can delay the right care.

Limited access to spirometry testing, misdiagnosis, and shortage of trained respiratory specialists can lead to late-stage diagnosis and poor health outcomes for people with chronic respiratory conditions.

Strengthening diagnostic safety is essential for safer NCD care.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Help us understand these gaps better.

๐Ÿซ | Diagnostic Safety in Respiratory Care

Timely and accurate diagnosis is a key part of patient safety.

For conditions like COPD and asthma, spirometry is considered the gold standard diagnostic test, yet it remains underused in primary care settings. This can lead to delayed diagnosis, inappropriate treatment, and preventable disease progression.

As part of our focus on safe care for NCDs, we are highlighting the importance of strengthening diagnostic pathways for chronic respiratory conditions.

โค๏ธ | Risk Awareness & Early Detection

As part of the World Patient Safety Day 2026 theme โ€œSafe Care for Noncommunicable Diseasesโ€, this May we spotlight a critical yet often silent risk hypertension.

Hypertension affects 1 in 3 adults globally, and most cases remain undiagnosed.

โš ๏ธ What makes this dangerous is that early-stage hypertension is often asymptomatic, delaying timely diagnosis and increasing the risk of serious cardiovascular events.

๐Ÿ’ก Why this matters for patient safety:
Missed screening and late detection are preventable risks that can lead to avoidable harm within healthcare systems.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Early screening saves lives. Awareness prevents complications.

The World Health Organization's 2026 global patient safety turns the spotlight on Theme โ€œSafe care for noncommunicable diseasesโ€ conditions that claim millions of lives each year and demand continuous, long-term care. Yet within this care journey, critical safety risks like missed diagnoses, medication errors, and poor follow-up continue to go unaddressed.
This May, we draw attention to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) the single largest contributor to the global NCD burden.

โค๏ธ The Heart of the Problem Nearly 1 in 3 deaths worldwide is linked to cardiovascular disease, with the heaviest toll falling on low- and middle-income countries. What makes this especially urgent is that the majority of these deaths are preventable, yet millions remain undiagnosed or without adequate care.

โš ๏ธ What's driving this burden?
Poorly managed hypertension and diabetes
To***co use and harmful alcohol consumption
Unhealthy diets and sedentary lifestyles
Delayed screening and low public awareness
Fragmented and inconsistent quality of care
Each of these gaps doesn't just worsen health outcomes it creates real, avoidable harm within our healthcare systems.

๐ŸŒ Be Part of the Conversation In observance of World Patient Safety Day 2026, we are proud to host two dedicated webinars on safe NCD care uniting patients, clinicians, and policymakers to exchange insights and co-create safer health systems.
