Goddess Meenakshi |Amma Madhura Meenakshi temple Madurai . like and follow share this page According to the Tiruvilaiyadal Puranam, Goddess Parvathy was born as Meenakshi, the warrior princess of Madurai. She was born with three breasts, and a prophecy stated that the extra one would disappear upon finding a deserving husband. Meenakshi was highly skilled in martial arts and excelled in archery and sword-fighting. When she turned 21, her father invited suitors to find a suitable husband for her since women couldn't ascend the throne alone. Meenakshi declared that she would only marry someone who could defeat her in combat, yet none proved capable of doing so. As a result, her father granted her the right to rule independently. Her journey continued with successful military campaigns. While at Mount Kailash, she encountered Sundareswara, a form of Lord Shiva, who matched her in prowess. Upon meeting her destined partner, her third breast vanished. Upon returning to Madurai, Meenakshi became the ruler of the Pandyan Dynasty. The city itself became the center of her worship, exemplified by the Meenakshi Amman Temple. Though the temple was ravaged in the 14th century, it was rebuilt and stands today as a testament to the power and devotion of Queen Meenakshi.
