JATO

Jato is a traditional Nepali stone grinder, once an essential part of every rural home. Made of two round flat stones, it was used to grind grains like corn, wheat, rice, millet, and pulses into flour. The lower stone remains fixed, while the upper stone rotates with a wooden handle called “Rullo.” Grains are poured through a small hole in the center, and as the stone turns, the grains are slowly ground into fine flour.

This simple hand-operated tool reflects the hard work, patience, and self-sufficient lifestyle of Nepali village life. Though modern machines have replaced it today, the Jato still stands as a symbol of our tradition, culture, and rural heritage.
