An Encounter with a Disciplined Investor⦠an Auto Driver
I recently came across an interesting story in an article about an auto driver who had been investing in the stock market for over 20 years. He followed a simple strategy. He never sold his shares and consistently invested in strong companies like Reliance, HDFC, ICICI, SBI, and some good mid-cap stocks. Slowly and patiently, year after year, he built his portfolio, which is now worth more than ā¹3 crore. What stood out the most was that he still lives in his old house and continues to drive his auto for long hours, not out of necessity, but because he enjoys his work. There is no luxury lifestyle and no need to show off, just discipline, patience, and simplicity. It is a reminder that the best investors are not always in the spotlight, and sometimes they are quietly building wealth through consistency and patience.
Usually, the apartment flats we buy today come with many modern features based on current trends. However, these trends often last only for a decade or even less. The practical life cycle of an apartmentās design and features is around 30ā35 years, after which people start looking for newer homes that match the latest lifestyle.
In India, nearly 50ā60% of flats are purchased through EMI, and many young buyers choose home loans with a tenure of around 30 years. By the time they finish paying the EMI, the apartmentās design and facilities may already feel outdated compared to newer developments.
This is one of the realities of modern urban housing. By the time you fully own the house, the trend has already changed.
