Heavy Nepal rain to worsen flood woes in Bihar

PATNA: With the westerly winds strengthening over the plains of north and northeast India, including Bihar, the monsoon trough has shifted towards the foothills of Himalayas, resulting in weakening of rainfall activity across the state. However, weatherman says, it will definitely lead to good rainfall in districts lying in extreme northeast regions of Bihar, which are close to Nepal border.

"There is every possibility of good amount of rainfall in the second and third week of September in areas of north and northeast Bihar. However, it is difficult to predict a week in advance whether the rainfall will be heavy or moderate. But even if the rain is moderate and incessant in catchment areas, it will only worsen the prevailing flood situation in the districts of north Bihar. Hence, we have requested the state government to gear up to meet any eventuality as September floods are often the worst. Any warning can be given only 48 hours in advance," Patna Met director A K Sen said on Thursday.
