There are three main stages of entrepreneurship.
The first stage is when we’re wearing different hats and we’re trying to make the sales, do the marketing, create the product and handling support. That’s the life of the solopreneur, when you’re bootstrapping when you first start out and try to do everything on your own. Eventually, you’ll realise that in order to scale the business and take it to the next level is when you’re able to outsource your weaknesses.
We all have strengths and weaknesses, and the one thing we want to do is double down on what we’re good at. Outsource your weaknesses to other people, they’ll want to join your team and make up for the things you’re not good at. I’m not good at a lot of things: website design, copy, programming - I can’t do these things and the people in my team are better than me in at least one of those things.
At the last level, that’s when you’re able to outsource your strengths. That’s the final stage, when you’re able to let go completely and work on the business instead of being in the business. Depending on where you are in this journey of entrepreneurship, ask yourself what you can do to start letting go. If you’re a solopreneur, then it’s tasks like customer support. Activities that keep your business afloat and don’t necessarily take it towards the direction you want to take it.
Ask yourself, in order to scale your business to the next level, what can you outsource this month so that you’re working on the business and not inside it. There’s a big difference.
