Yesteryears playing cards ‘Ganjapa’ still exist in at least a few pockets of Odisha. These are still being made by the artisans belonging to few specific areas like Raghurajpur ( Heritage crafts village near Chandan pur, Puri, Odisha), Dandasahi , Paralakhemundi , Ganjam etc… Even today some elderly people remain indulged in playing GANJAPA during indolent afternoons particularly in few pockets of deep interior rural belts of Puri and Ganjam districts.

When I searched for the real meaning of the word " Juggernaut" ( anglicised version of "Jagannath" ) , I found something like this.

The literary meaning of Juggernaut is " a massive inexorable force , movement, or object that crushes whatever is in its path.
Since the chariots ( or the Ratha ) is viewed as a relentless power or a kind of inexorable force, individuals from West instituted another English word called as Juggernaut. The beginning of this word can be followed back to mid-nineteenth century. The word 'Jagannath' implies the Master of the universe ( both in Sanskrit and Odia language . This is the name by which Shri Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu is referred.
As a matter of fact, the earliest notice of Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra in western records can be followed back to thirteenth century C.E. The word 'Juggernaut' likewise finds a mention in "The Life and Experiences of Martin Chuzzlewit" , a book by renowned author Charles Dickens.

The United States has repatriated a rare, Rs 19 crore ($2 million) bronze statue of Lord Avalokiteshvara to India as part of a massive handover of 657 stolen antiquities. This historic Buddhist artifact, originally stolen from a Chhattisgarh museum in the 1980s, is currently in transit to be permanently re-installed in its home state.

May 20 was established as World Bee Day to honor the birthday of Anton Janša (1734–1773), a pioneer of modern beekeeping from Slovenia. The UN officially adopted this date in 2017 to raise awareness about the crucial role bees and other pollinators play in global food security and ecosystem health.

A beehive contains one queen bee and around 20,000 to 40,000 worker bees. It is amazing to learn that 15 to 20 kg of honey is collected from one beehive. They live and store honey in the same beehive. The worker bees secrete saliva from glands in their stomachs, making them warm and cozy little hexagonal chambers at their own body temperature . The purpose of these little cells called honeycombs is to store honey and also to raise their youngs too.

Why do white flowers bloom at night?
White flowers bloom at night as an evolutionary strategy to attract nocturnal pollinators like moths and bats. Because these animals rely less on bright colors in the dark, the flowers use their white petals to reflect available moonlight, making them highly visible.

There lies roughly a time gap of about two centuries in between these two temples ...one is Parshurameswar temple ( 7th century AD) in Bhubaneswar and another temple is Simhanath Temple ( 9th century AD) in Baramba. You can put a comparative glance on the Sun God sculpture in both of these temple walls.

Every year, May 18 is celebrated as International Museum Day. The main objective of celebrating this special day is to raise awareness about museums and to make the society aware of this institution. The International Council of Museums ( ICOM) started celebrating the day in 1977. Since that year, International Museum Day has been celebrated every year all over the world. Museums play an important role in preserving history. They preserve many memories of our ancestors, which in turn contributes to our future generations. The theme for this year's International Museum Day is "Museums Uniting a Divided World." Established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), this year's theme highlights the critical role museums play as bridges across cultural, social, and geopolitical divides. In this context, I would like to suggest you to go through the following writeup.

The unprecedented surge in silver prices ( currently the price per kg of silver has gone up to around 3lakh rupees) , compounded by heavy import duties, has devastated Cuttack's traditional filigree (Tarakasi) artisans. With raw material costs skyrocketing and plunging affordability for handmade goods, these craftsmen face severe financial distress, forcing many younger generations to abandon this heritage art form. Tarakasi, which was proudly granted a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, has supported thousands of families in Cuttack for centuries.

The Kandarpa Ratha ( କନ୍ଦର୍ପ ରଥ), formed by the gopis with Krishna at the center, is a powerful symbol of divine love, harmony, and spiritual union. It encapsulates the essence of bhakti, where the soul, represented by the gopis, seeks to merge with the divine through devotion and surrender.
