When my students tried this posture support with the belt, it genuinely helped them sit with much less strain. There is one more variation coming up later as well. Both have been very helpful in reducing unnecessary pressure on the spine during meditation sitting.

Using a Belt
Most neck pain and shoulder pain is not just because of the neck.
It often starts with chronic contraction in the upper trapezius and collapsing of the chest.
In this posture correction technique using a belt, we work on lifting the rib cage, stabilising the scapula, opening the chest, and releasing excessive contraction in the upper trapezius.
When the shoulders stay constantly elevated and rounded forward, the neck muscles become overworked. This therapeutic correction helps the body relearn alignment and creates space in the neck and shoulders.
Therapy-based corrections are not just stretches.
They retrain posture, breathing mechanics, and muscular balance together.

When she first came to me, she had nodules in her lungs.
Breathing without an oxygen machine was difficult.
Walking was exhausting.
Her knees hurt. Her back hurt. Her body had become weak.
Today…
she attends online general yoga and MedicalYoga therapy classes with other students.
She moves.
She breathes better.
She smiles more.
And most importantly — she believes in herself again.
But this journey is not just about recovery.
She became a reminder of what dedication, faith, and consistent practice can do.
The drive she has… the sincerity with which she works on herself… challenges me as a therapist to become better every single day.
People often say, “You healed her.”
But the truth is —
a therapist can only guide.
The student heals when they become committed to their own transformation.
At one point, I stop becoming their teacher.
I simply become their guide.
And they become their own teacher.
Every student who comes to me has taught me something.
The therapist I am today exists because of my students… and because of my teachers who constantly guided me with humility and wisdom.

Ustrasana is not just a “backbend.”
In MedicalYoga therapy, a therapy-based backbend is very different from a general yoga class backbend.
In a regular class, the focus is often on flexibility and how deep the spine can bend backward. But when a student has back pain, compression, slipped disc, stiffness, or spinal misalignment, forcing flexibility can actually increase pain and irritation.
In therapy-based backbends, we work very differently.
The focus is on:
• Extension of the spine
• Decompression while lengthening the spine
• Intelligent engagement of the ribcage and pelvis
• Creating space, support, and stability before depth
Sometimes the pelvis is fixed and the ribcage is moved.
Sometimes the ribcage is stabilized and the pelvis is moved.
These are subtle and complex therapeutic actions taught according to the condition, pain pattern, and structure of each student.
This is why MedicalYoga therapy is not “just stretching.”
It is applied anatomical understanding through movement.
