ಕರ್ನಾಟಕವು ಮೇ 21 ರಂದು ಆಂಧ್ರಪ್ರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಆರು ಆನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಉಡುಗೊರೆಯಾಗಿ ನೀಡಲು ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿದೆ.

ಕೊಡಗು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ದುಬಾರೆ ಆನೆ ಶಿಬಿರದಿಂದ ರಂಜನ್, ದೇವ, ಮಾಸ್ತಿ, ಕರುಣಾ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಸಕ್ರೆಬೈಲು ಆನೆ ಶಿಬಿರದಿಂದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಿಮನ್ಯು ಅವರನ್ನು (ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಲಗತ್ತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ) ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಕಾಳಿ ಹುಲಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿತ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ದಾಂಡೇಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಆನೆ ಮರಿಯನ್ನು ಅದರ ತಾಯಿಯಿಂದ ಹಾಲುಣಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಲು ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಿಮನ್ಯು ಅವರನ್ನು ಅವರ ಮಾವುತರು ಮತ್ತು ಕವಾಡಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಮಾವುತರು ಮತ್ತು ಕವಾಡಿಗಳು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿದಾಗ, ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಿಮನ್ಯು ಅವರನ್ನು ದಾಂಡೇಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿಡಲಾಯಿತು.

ಮಾವುತರು ಮತ್ತು ಕವಾಡಿಗಳು ತರಬೇತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಆನೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲ್ವಿಚಾರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆರೈಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡುವುದು ಒಂದು ಪದ್ಧತಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಆದರೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಿಮನ್ಯುವಿನ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾವುತರನ್ನು ಅನುಮಾನಾಸ್ಪದವಾಗಿ ಪ್ಯಾಕ್ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.

ಬಂಧಿತ ಆನೆಗಳ ದಾಸ್ತಾನನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಆರು ಸುಂದರ ಉಡುಗೊರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ತೂರಿಗೆ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ಯಲಾಗುವುದು.
ಆಂಧ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನವ-ಆನೆ ಸಂಘರ್ಷವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಆನೆಗಳನ್ನು "ಉಡುಗೊರೆಯಾಗಿ" ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸವೆಂದರೆ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಾನವ-ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಸಂಘರ್ಷಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.

ಹಾಸನ, ಕೊಡಗು, ಚಾಮರಾಜನಗರ ಮತ್ತು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರು, ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ರೈತರು ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಷಿ ಕೈಗಳನ್ನು ಆಗಾಗ್ಗೆ ತುಳಿದು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಆನೆ ಶಿಬಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆನೆಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲು ಆಗಾಗ್ಗೆ ಸೆರೆಹಿಡಿಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಕರುವಿಗೆ ಹಾಲುಣಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಕ್ರೆಬೈಲಿನಿಂದ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾದ ಆನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅವುಗಳ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತ, ಪರಿಚಿತ ಪರಿಸರಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿಸುವ ಬದಲು ಆಂಧ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಖಂಡನೀಯ.

Karnataka is set to gift six elephants to Andhra on May 21.
Ranjan, Deva, Masthi, Karuna are being sent from Dubare elephant camp in Kodagu district.
Krishna and Abhimanyu (photos attached) are being sent from Sakrebailu elephant camp in Shimoga district.
Krishna and Abhimanyu had been sent along with their mahouts and kavadis to help in weaning an elephant calf from its mother in Dandeli, Kali Tiger Reserve.
While the mahouts and kavadis returned to Shimoga, Krishna and Abhimanyu were kept in captivity in Dandeli.
It is a practice that the mahouts and kavadis keep the trained elephants under their supervision and care.
But in the case of Krishna and Abhimanyu the mahouts were suspiciously packed off.
The six lovely gifts from Karnataka are to be taken to Chitoor to augment the stock of captive elephants.
The elephants are being "gifted' to help mitigate human-elephant conflicts in Andhra.
Ironically, Karnataka has most incidents of man-animal conflicts.
People, especially farmers and farm hands are being trampled frequently in Hassan, Kodagu, Chamarajnagar and Mysore.
Consequently, elephants are being captured frequently to replenish the stock in Karnataka's elephant camps.
It is condemnable that the elephants which were sent from Sakrebailu to help wean a calf are being sent to Andhra, instead of them being returned to their established, familiar environment.
