The best part about having a menstrual cycle, is the information it provides us with about our bodies!

It is normal to have a period that is different as a one off, but if you are consistently noticing some of these symptoms for more than 3 months, then you may have a hormone imbalance to sort out.

Please note: If your period pain prevents you from going to work or school and does not respond to painkillers, this is not normal period pain. This could be caused by conditions called adenomyosis or endometriosis and should be diagnosed and treated accordingly.

We need to address stigma around menstruation in order to understand & fix the challenges people face around access to menstrual hygiene products. Period poverty is real.

Embarrassment or taboos may prevent people from advocating for themselves but if that stigma is removed or even eased by talking through these issues. We as a society can move forward to address the needs of half of our population.

Menstruation is still seen as a taboo topic but it is something a menstruation person will have to consider when planning or undergoing fieldwork in remote environments.

We need to stop shying away from these conversations and in fact incorporate briefing outline facilities and disposal of waste menstrual products into the standard pre-departure rundowns for all fieldworkers.
