The reported sexual assault of a 12-year-old minor girl in Bandipora is horrifying , deeply disturbing and a matter of serious concern for the entire society.
The swift action by the Bandipora Police in cracking the case within 12 hours deserves appreciation. The concerned SHO and his team have demonstrated that prompt, professional and sensitive policing can make a crucial difference in such grave cases.
However, a much larger question remains unanswered: Why do such heinous crimes continue to occur? Why has the fear of law failed to deter those who prey upon innocent children? Merely arresting the accused is not enough. The justice system must ensure a fair, speedy and uncompromising trial, and those found guilty must face the severest punishment prescribed under law.
A child's innocence, dignity and future cannot be treated as expendable. Every daughter and every child deserves to feel safe at home, on the streets, in schools and everywhere else.
Society must stop normalising or remaining silent about crimes against children. Families, educational institutions, communities, police and the justice system must work together to protect our children. At the same time, the law must send a strong and unequivocal message: anyone who destroys the life and dignity of a child will face swift and stringent legal consequences.
We must build a system in which justice is not only delivered, but delivered in a manner that creates genuine deterrence. Protecting our children is not merely a legal responsibility, It is a collective moral duty.
