youth takes control of manufacturing unit to promote Kashmiri cricket bats*

Anantnag, Sep 18 : A youth from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has taken control of his decade’s old bat manufacturing unit to promote Kashmiri cricket bats at national and international level.

Muhammad Aarif Dar, son of Mohammad Yusuf Dar of Sethar village in Sangam area of Anantnag is now managing everything at his unit and is busy in promotion of cricket bat at different levels.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Aarif said that the bat industry is declining in Kashmir because it is facing so many challenges as most of the people associated with it are still going the traditional way and there is no innovation.

“The unit holders mostly focus on producing more and more bats instead of focusing on their quality. Trend has started to change as educated youth have now started to supervise their existing units whose prime focus is quality rather than quantity,” he said.

He said, “Our parents were not so literate and were not able to promote their product due to lack of communication with people outside the valley. Now educated youth have taken Kashmiri bat to every corner of the world.”

Aarif who has pursued M.Com and postgraduate diploma in business management said that from the last two years he has been supervising his unit “M. Y Sports” which was established in 1980 by his parents.

He said as educated youth have started to supervise their units, quality bats are being produced and there is competition in this business now, which will help in further improvement in the production.

“At present around 15 youth are getting employment at my unit which is likely to increase in coming time,” he said.

He said that his message to the youth would be that don't wait for government or private jobs but start your and government must also help the educated youth to start their own business ventures—(KNO)
