๐ฅ 60 Seconds with Danielle: Why I Created Boxing Therapy
15 years ago, a client said something that changed everything.
Danielle was working with a client and incorporating some boxing fitness into their sessions โ simply punching back and forth.
Then her client said:
โYou know, this is a lot like my EMDR therapy.โ
That observation sparked a question: What if the bilateral movement happening in boxing could actually become part of the therapeutic process?
As Danielle continued developing the approach over the years, research and clinical experience helped explain what was happening: boxing was engaging the body and the nervous system while also providing bilateral stimulation.
And that became the foundation of Boxing Therapy.
Today, Boxing Therapy brings together the cognitions and emotions we work with in therapy with the physical experience of the body โ creating a therapeutic approach that goes beyond words alone.
๐ฅ Watch Danielle share the story behind the creation of Boxing Therapy.
And if you're a mental health professional interested in learning the approach:

๐ฅ What do you actually learn when you receive the full Boxing Therapy Certification?
Hi, I'm Raizel, Director of Education here at Boxing Therapy, and your instructor for the 16-hour full certification course.
So let me tell you, the Boxing Therapy Certification is designed to give you all of the skills, strategies, and confidence you need to use the Boxing Therapy modality in your practice.
Together we learn all about exercise science and physiology, so we can safely bring our clients through this fitness experience, being that we are mental health professionals.
We also learn all about the physiology and how we interact with our nervous system. We underscore the brain-body connection by understanding on a physiological, biological level what that really means.
When I say working with the nervous system, we mean beginning with the nervous system.
From here, we move forward and learn all about the various therapeutic modalities that are embedded within the Boxing Therapy perspective.
Then we move forward learning how to practically apply the skills and theories we have been learning up to this point. We speak very, very specifically on how skills are performed and how strategies are applied into session, using boxing as the physical instrument.
We get to learn these skills and tie everything together with the perspective that we are founded in.
We understand and learn what is trauma. How does it affect that brain-body connected nervous system? How do we help clients reprocess and reintegrate after a traumatic experience? What are skills, strategies, and coping mechanisms we can offer to clients if they get triggered in session?
We bring it all together here in the Boxing Therapy section.
Everything we learn in training is reinforced through role-play sessions where, yes, you will get to start practicing your Boxing Therapy in our cohorts. We get to use worksheets and other activities to reinforce skills and even get to watch intake and 10th session role-play videos so that we can see Boxing Therapy applied and in action.

This certification is for you.
It's for therapists who want more than another theory.

Whether you work with trauma, anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, teens, adults, or groups, Boxing Therapy offers a unique way to combine psychotherapy with movement and bilateral stimulation.
If you're ready to expand your clinical toolbox and bring a dynamic new modality into your practice, we'd love to have you join us.

**What if movement could become part of your clinical toolkit?**
Therapy doesnโt always have to happen through words alone.
For some clients, movement can create a different pathway into regulation, body awareness, emotional expression, and resilience.
Boxing Therapy brings intentional movement into the therapeutic processโcombining evidence-informed clinical practice with boxing-based techniques to help clients engage with their nervous system in a new way.
Itโs not about being a boxer.
Itโs not about fitness.
And itโs not about teaching clients to fight.
Itโs about giving therapists another tool to meet clients where they areโand helping clients experience change not only cognitively, but physically and emotionally.
