Στις 21 Μαΐου συμπληρώνονται τριάντα δύο χρόνια από τη σύναψη πλήρων διπλωματικών σχέσεων μεταξύ Ισραήλ 🇮🇱 και Ελλάδας 🇬🇷.
Αν και το Ισραήλ ιδρύθηκε το 1948 και αναγνωρίστηκε de facto από την Ελλάδα και η πρώτη επίσκεψη Ισραηλινού πρωθυπουργού στο εξωτερικό ήταν στην Αθήνα το 1950, κύλησε πολύς χρόνος και μεσολάβησαν ιστορικά γεγονότα, μέχρι να καρποφορήσουν οι προσπάθειες. Στις 21 Μαΐου 1990 υπό τις κυβερνήσεις των πρωθυπουργών Σαμίρ και Μητσοτάκη, οι δύο χώρες σύναψαν πλήρεις διπλωματικές σχέσεις.
32 χρόνια αργότερα, καθώς οι χώρες και οι λαοί μας ήρθαν πιο κοντά από ποτέ, βλέπουμε τα επιτεύγματα των τριών τελευταίων δεκαετιών με υπερηφάνεια και με την ελπίδα για ένα μέλλον με ακόμα στενότερες σχέσεις.
Ως δύο έθνη με αρχαία ιστορία και με ισχυρή μεσογειακή κληρονομιά και παράδοση, οι χώρες μας αποτελούν πυλώνες σταθερότητας, ευημερίας και περιφερειακής συνεργασίας.
Με την ευκαιρία της ημέρας, ο Πρέσβης του Ισραήλ Γιόσι Αμράνι πρόσθεσε ότι το Ισραήλ και η Ελλάδα μαζί μπορούν να οικοδομήσουν νέες γέφυρες μεταξύ τους, καθώς και με άλλους περιφερειακούς εταίρους.
Γιορτάζουμε την ημέρα ανανεώνοντας τη δέσμευσή μας για την επέκταση και ενίσχυση της φιλίας και της συνεργασίας μας.


On May 21st we mark thirty two years since the establishment of full diplomatic relations between Israel 🇮🇱 and Greece 🇬🇷.
Though Israel was established in 1948 and recognized de facto by Greece and the first ever visit of an Israeli Premier overseas was to Athens in 1950, it took time and history till efforts reached fruition and in May 21st, 1990 under the Governments of PM Shamir and Mitsotakis established full diplomatic relations.
32 years later as our countries and people got closer than ever, we look at the last three decades achievements with pride and with hope for a future of even closer relations.
As two nations of ancient history with a strong Mediterranean heritage and tradition our countries are anchors of stability, prosperity and regional cooperation.
In marking the day, Israeli Ambassador Yossi Amrani added that together Israel and Greece can build new bridges between our countries and with other regional partners.
We celebrate the day with a renewed commitment to further and strengthen our friendship and cooperation.

Summer time is getting closer and we all know what it means right?😉🇬🇷✈️🏖

The Greek flag is called Galanólefki (Γαλανόλευκη). The Hebrew translation to it is “Blue and White”. The Greek flag as it is today was adopted in 1822 right after gaining independence from the Ottoman Empire.

The colors of the flag symbolize things like the uniform colors of the combat Greek soldiers and the Greek navy who fought during the revolution. Others say the colors are inspired by the foam of the waves alongside the skies and sea of Greece. Another reason is attributed to the belief that blue is a lucky color that protects from evil eye.

The nine stripes in the flag symbolize the nine syllables in the Eleftheria i Thanatos (Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος) which translates to “Freedom or Death”. An alternative to this theory assigns the stripes to the nine muses- the goddesses of art, science and literature from Greek mythology.

O Έλληνας Υπουργός Εξωτερικών κ. Ν. Δένδιας υποδέχεται σήμερα στην Αθήνα τους ομολόγους του από την Κύπρο και το Ισραήλ, κ.κ. Ι. Κασουλίδη και Y. Lapid, για διμερείς επαφές και τριμερή συνάντηση. Θα συζητηθούν οι περιφερειακές και διεθνείς εξελίξεις και τρόποι περαιτέρω ενίσχυσης των στρατηγικών σχέσεων και της συνεργασίας μεταξύ των χωρών, τόσο διμερώς όσο και τριμερώς.

Today, the Greek Foreign Minister Mr. N. Dendias is welcoming his Cypriot and Israeli counterparts Foreign Ministers I. Kassoulides and Y. Lapid in Athens for bilateral talks and a trilateral meeting. The Ministers will be discussing regional and international developments and ways of further strengthening strategic relations and cooperation both bilaterally and trilaterally.

The Corona virus has driven the world crazy and when new variants keep on coming an interesting thing to look into can be their names. As we all noticed, many of the COVID variants are named after Greek letters like the Delta variant and of course- the Omicron that put us all back in isolation.

The name Omicron (O,o|όμικρον) actually means “little O” (as in the word "dog"). In the Greek alphabet, there is another letter that creates the same syllable and sound of the Omicron: Omega (ωμέγα| Ω,ω). The name Omega means “big O” (as in the word "open"). The names of the letters come from ancient Greek language. In modern Greek language, short or long sounds are almost meaningless, and usually, both will sound like a “small O”.
