On Saturday, we held a special Volunteer Appreciation Day to recognise the incredible time, effort and energy given by the volunteers and supporters who make Ballingarry Community Café what it is.

There is so much that happens behind the scenes each week: stocktaking, shopping, cleaning, food preparation, setting up and putting away tables and chairs, meal planning, menu preparation, cooking, serving and countless other jobs.

To name but a few, there’s Tony Wall, Noel Cleary and Michael Kealy, our go-to guys for all sorts of jobs, big and small, and Anita Hennebry, who looks after the design and printing of our menus each week.

Huge appreciation also goes to everyone cooking and serving delicious food, particularly through some very hot days in the kitchen recently, while welcoming an ever-growing number of customers.

Kathleen Meagher and Sr Patricia Wall, regular visitors and fantastic advocates bring guests from near and far and truly embrace the Café as a social hub, a place to meet, chat and connect.

Most importantly, thank you to every single volunteer and supporter, whether you are out front or working quietly behind the scenes. Every contribution matters.

And to our wonderful customers, thank you for giving us a reason to open our doors each week.

Three generations. Two families. One very special Community Café.

Community Cafe Ballingarry is incredibly proud to have not one, but TWO families with three generations volunteering together at our café!

These wonderful photographs represent so much of what a community café should be about. Different generations working side by side, sharing skills, sharing stories, having fun and giving their time to make something positive happen in their community.

Volunteering has always been at the heart of strong rural communities, but its future depends on young people getting involved too. When younger generations volunteer alongside parents, grandparents and other members of the community, they gain confidence, friendships, practical skills and experience, while also discovering the value of contributing to the place they call home.

And, of course, the older generations have plenty to learn from them too!

Community spirit is not something we simply inherit. It is something we teach, encourage and pass on.

A huge thank you to these six fantastic volunteers and to every single person who gives their time and support to Ballingarry Community Cafe. Whether you can volunteer regularly or simply give a few hours when you can, every contribution matters.

The spirit of history, community and remembrance was evident throughout Ballingarry and The Commons on Saturday, July 25th, as people from across Tipperary and beyond gathered for the 20th Annual Famine 1848 Walk.

The commemorative walk once again honoured the dead of the great Famine and those involved in the Young Ireland Rising of 1848, remembering an important chapter in Ireland's history while celebrating the resilience, heritage and community spirit that continues to define the area today.

A particular highlight of this year's event was the attendance of Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, whose participation added to the significance of the occasion. The continued success of the annual walk is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the organising committee, volunteers and supporters who give their time each year to ensure the event is both meaningful and welcoming.

Sincere thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, supported or helped organise this year's event. And to Paul Browne for the fantastic photos taken on the day. We look forward to welcoming even more people in 2027 as this important tradition continues to flourish.

As one of the founders of Community Cafe Ballingarry, Imelda has played a vital role in creating a welcoming place where people can meet, connect and support one another. Her passion for community spirit and her tireless efforts have helped shape the Café into the thriving and valued community space it is today.

On behalf of everyone at Ballingarry Community Development CLG, we would like to wish Imelda a very happy birthday and thank her sincerely for everything she has done for our community over so many years and send our warmest wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

On Thursday, we were very fortunate to celebrate a very special birthday with a very special person Senator Imelda Goldsboro . Imelda has been the backbone of our community for many many years and without her initiative, hard work and dedication, our wonderful Cafe would not be the huge success that it is today. We want to thank her for joining us on her special day and wish her the very best of health and continued recovery.

Community Safety Notice

Following a recent burglary in the Lower Ballingarry area, we would like to encourage everyone in our community to remain vigilant and to look out for one another.

If you notice any suspicious activity, unfamiliar vehicles acting unusually, or behaviour that causes concern, please do not ignore it. Report it to your local Garda Station on 0504 25100. Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could help prevent further incidents.

We also encourage everyone to take a few moments to check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours, friends and family members. A friendly visit, phone call or simple conversation can provide reassurance and help ensure they feel safe and supported.

Ballingarry has always been a community that supports each other. By remaining alert and working together, we can help keep our neighbourhoods safe.

If you require immediate Garda assistance in an emergency, always dial 999 or 112.

Thank you for helping to keep our community safe.
