☘️☘️A Stone From Home ☘️☘️
……………………………..
Heartfelt thanks to Cathy and her family for choosing to travel with myself and Shamrockroutes,on this nine day journey through Ireland. It was a privilege to guide you while sharing Irelands landscapes, history, culture and warm hospitality.

A very special thank you goes out to Noreen of Hibernia Roots for her dedication, research and hard work in bringing this family story to life. One of the tour’s most emotional moments was taking Cathy and her family to the place in Co. Mayo where her great grandfather was born and reared before leaving Ireland for the United States in the mid 1800s.

The homecoming became even more meaningful when Cathy took a stone from the wall of the house.I then hired a consaw from Sam Hire and carefully cut the stone into small segments.Allowing all six family members to take a few pieces each home to America ,to share this connection with other family relatives.

Thank you Cathy and your family for trusting myself and Shamrockroutes with such a personal journey. It was an honour to be part of memories that will be treasured for generations.

If your family in the United States would like to discover its Irish Ancestry, contact Shamrockroutes and let us help bring your own family story home.

Another day another last day adventure with Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️.Today Cathy,Stacey,Michael,Diana,Jack and Carol all the way from Washington 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸, on their last full day touring opted for a slower pace. This week between touring and ancestry, they all enjoyed and loved every moment.
First stop after leaving Sligo was DrumCliff Church . St. Columbas church the burial grounds of Irish playwright WB Yeats. Our guests spent a little time here including visiting the Church.
Ballyshannon was our next destination. Stacey aka Birdman wanted to see both statue and Muals of Rory Gallagher. Irish guitarist famous blues rock guitarist born in Ballyshannon.
Next destination was Sliabh Liag Cliffs. These cliffs are amongst the tallest sea cliffs in Europe. Lots of photos and breathtaking scenery. The day was beautiful , blue skies and generally nice and warm.
The Cliffs experience as usual rattles everyone’s hunger pangs. The most obvious visit after the Cliffs was The Rusty Mackerel. The food was devine and the craic and few drinks finished off another perfect day.
On the road travelling back to Killybegs the craic and laughs were almighty. We stopped in the harbour in Killybegs . Admiring the views, boats etc .Lots of photos were taken.
Our final stop for today was Lough Eske Castle just outside Donegal.Such a perfect finish to a perfect vacation.Once again Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️.doing what they do best , making memories to last a lifetime ☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇺🇸🇮🇪. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another day another adventure with Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️, today Cathy,Stacey,Jack , Carol and Diana decided to go for a beach walk with Wolfhounds. Michael went to Westport golf course for a round of golf.

Michael headed early for an 8 am Tee time. Everybody else traveled with me to Bertra Beach outside Westport to meet Aidan O Sullivan. Aidan brought along 3 Irish Wolfhounds. The sun was shining. Photos were taken. A long walk on the beach with history of the area. All about wolfhounds which they found interesting. An excellent experience.

We travelled to pickup Michael at golf course. Lunch was had and everyone chatting about their adventures. Michael chatted about his encounter with a fox on the 14th hole.

After lunch we travelled back to Crossmolina . Everybody wanted to visit the home of where their Great Grandfather was born and left to travel to the US in the mid 1800s. With the help of a cutting pliers, they cut briars and small branches from in front off the house door and entered the house. This was an emotional experience for them all.

Next stop was a relaxing few hours at The Beach Bar. Everyone was relaxed and enjoyed a few drinks . Finally back on the road and finishing in Sligo town.Once again Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️,doin what it does best, making memories to last a lifetime. 🇮🇪🇺🇸🇮🇪☘️☘️☘️. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Friday Fun Fact

Photos from Shamrock Routes's post 13/08/2026

Another day another adventure with Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️.Today Cathy,Stacey,Jack,Carol, Michael and Diane from Washington 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸, started today with enthusiasm and excitement because we were goin to visit the birth place of their Great Grandfather.I would like to say a big thank you to Noreen from Hibernia Roots Irish Ancestry. Thank you for all your invisible hours of research. Your hard and dedicated service has given a family the opportunity to visit the birthplace of their Great Grandparent who left Ireland for a better life.
Travelling to Crossmolina was exciting but cautious aswell. Hoping we could fulfill a family’s dream of reuniting them with their Irish links. We had an old map from a Land Valuation back in the 1800s. This map had the land marked out of their ancestors. We drove to a ruins with trees growing up through the floor. I could see their reaction they knew they were home.
We visited St Mary’s Church in Crossmolina , they found the family grave dating back to the 1800s. I felt with all today’s discovery all 6 need an over night to make tomorrow’s plan. They say they were happy is an understatement. I could not be happier for these people. This has been a massive day for them.
On our way back to Westport they went to John Mc Hale Bar in Castlebar. They had a drink or two. A lot to take in . Once again Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️, doing what they do best, making memories to last a lifetime 🇮🇪🇺🇸🇮🇪☘️☘️☘️. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another day another adventure with Shamrock Routes ☘️☘️☘️, yesterday Cathy,Stacey,Jack,Carol,Michael and Diann from Washington 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸, decided to take today at a much slower pace.

A 10 am pickup from the Galmont Hotel in Galway started our day. They were all excited about goin into Galway for some shopping and a walk about. I dropped them off straight away at the bottom of Shop Street and away they strolled on their adventure.

At lunchtime I picked them up and we headed for Connemara. The views were spectacular. Heather bogs, lakes and mountains. We were travelling towards the famous Kylemore Abbey. We took photos along the way. Stopped to walk onto the bog and learn about turf. How it’s made and its uses..

We arrived In Kylemore Abbey. The sky was a little greyish blue but warm .Kylemore Abbey is one of Irelands finest landmark.Built in 1867 by Mitchell Henry as a gift for his wife.Today it is the home of the nuns.It has a Victorian Walled Gardens, Mature Woodlands and a Gothic Church.Everybody enjoyed this visit and experience.

After leaving Kylemore, we travelled to the village of Letterfrack. There our guests enjoyed a delicious meal in Veldons Seafarer Restaurant. The food was awesome and again another wonderful experience.

Last part of yesterdays adventure was travelling from Letterfrack to Westport. The views along the way were breathtaking. Killary Fjord and the mountains and lakes. Our guests stay in Westport for 2 nights.Once again Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️, doing what they do best , making memories to last a lifetime 🇮🇪🇺🇸🇮🇪☘️☘️☘️. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another day another adventure with Shamrockroutes ☘️☘️☘️.

Yesterday was time to say goodbye to the Kingdom County. Travel up the Wild Atlantic Way to Galway. Cathy,Stacey,Jack,Carol,Michael and Diann were all excited about today’s adventure . 6 wonderful guests from Washington 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸.

On the road early headed for Di**le. Yesterdays was about ancestry and tracing the roots of where Cathy’s ancestors originated from. Today we looked at the Reed Beds where all roofing materials were sourced for the houses back in the 1800s. We visited an original Famine Cottage which was built back in early 1800 s. Cathy’s ancestors left Ireland back in the late 1800s . Boarded a Famine Ship and was one of the lucky ones to survive the Wild Atlantic Ocean for 3000miles.We visited a road which was used a 1000 years ago. While on Slea Head we stopped and took photos of the beautiful landscape.

We travelled back to Di**le and enjoyed a nice lunch. Then we drove to Tarbert in north Kerry to board a ferry to Killimer in Clare.

As we traveled the coastline to Lahinch we could see beautiful beach’s and jagged rock coastline . We visited the amazing Cliffs of Moher. Nice clear evening looking over to the Aran islands. White caps on the sea and crashing waves looked awesome. Last stop was The Burren. 350million years old, cascades of limestone layering the ground. Everybody was amazed by its history and beauty. Finished our adventure today in Galway city.
