Our volunteers were out in full force despite the change in the weather which is greatly wanted by the scorched ground. This morning litter was high on the agenda as all the approach roads into the town were picked as was the town its self.

Some of our volunteers were meet with some illegal dumping in a lane way near the town centre. As we cleaned up we saw the this person wasn’t very smart as we found their name and address. These details have been sent to the relevant authorities.

Also a big thank you to some of the residents in Clonmult Terace for their continued assistance in keep this area clean and tidy and maintaining the flower baskets in this area.

Our volunteers spent a lot of time over the last few days watering all our flower bed, planters and hanging baskets. A lot of this has to be done by hand with watering cans as our hoses don’t reach these areas. With this fabulous weather we are having at the moment it means that we have to water the town more frequently which means our volunteers are out and about most evenings.

Also litter picking around the town m’s Main Street and up the Mill Rd was done both on Sunday and tonight.

We received this email from a study who is doing a study on flooding. If you or anyone you know was affected by the flooding back in 2023, would you mind taking the survey and helping Anna.

Dear Midleton Tidy Towns Association,

My name is Anna Gibbons and I am a postgraduate researcher from Ireland, currently studying at the University of Glasgow. I am conducting research on how flooding impacts people’s lives, communities, and valued places in Midleton and East Cork. The link to the survey is here.

I would be very grateful if you could complete the attached survey and share it with others in your community, family, or social networks who may be interested in taking part. I would really appreciate it if you could share this survey via your social media pages. I have a link you can copy at the bottom of this email, and have attached a downloadable QR code. I have also attached a graphic you can share on your social media.

Please also let me know if there is a better way to share this survey with the Midleton Tidy Towns community - perhaps via a WhatsApp group, etc?

To take part in this study, you must be aged 18 years or older and have lived in, worked in, or otherwise have experience of the impacts of flooding in Midleton and East Cork. The survey should take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous and will be used for research purposes only.

This research is being conducted by myself under the supervision of Dr. Diarmaid Kelliher and is overseen by the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences and the University of Glasgow ethics committee. The final day to submit responses is the 14th July 2026.

If you have any questions or would like further information about the study, the information sheet at the start of the survey provides more detail, and you are also very welcome to contact me.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Kind regards,
Anna Gibbons

Our crew this morning were out and about in glorious sunshine, litter picking, weeding and hanging the last of our baskets and tubs.

Still plenty of work to be done over the next few days with a small bit of planting and a great deal of painting.

If you have a free hour and would like to help improve your town why not join us. WWE meet every Tuesday evening at 7pm and Sunday mornings at 9am by the Cork Rd bridge.

It was a great pleasure for some of our volunteers to meet the twinning town committee members from Mignaloux-Beauvoir at the Farmer’s Market this morning.

It’s hard to imagine that this relationship is going strong since 1998 almost 30 years soon.
