This second webinar in the five part series Exploring and Understanding the Updated Aistear focuses on Aistear’s view of the early years educator as agentic, competent, confident, and reflective. It supports early years educators to explore how this image informs their everyday practice through relationships, interactions, routines and curriculum decision-making.
Using real life experiences and reflective prompts from the Aistear Síolta Practice Guide, the webinar invites participants to reflect on their own view of themselves as educators and consider how Aistear’s image is actively brought to life in daily practice.
The session begins with a brief over on the image of the educator as set out in the updated Aistear by Mary Daly. We will then hear from Orlagh Doyle and Chloe Hickey from Carrig Briste and Killegney Early Years Service on how they bring the image of the educator to life in practice, both from a management and an educator perspective. They will explain how their image of the educator is visible across the setting where educators work collaboratively, reflect on their practice and respond with warmth and sensitivity to babies, toddlers and young children’s rights and agency.
Lorraine Farrell, National Aistear Development Officer will conclude the session with a short input on the resources available to support educators to reflect on their professional role in practice.
The webinar is suitable for early years educators working with babies, toddlers and young children across a range of early years settings.

We had an incredible morning at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Little Island. Sian Horn guided us through an incredibly unifying and deeply relaxing self care experience ✨✨✨
We began with the thought provoking Self Care Wheel and gentle reflection, such a powerful way to tune in to every part of ourselves. From there, we moved into energising Pilates, followed by calming breathwork, and setting meaningful goals and intentions, all while soaking up the supportive, nurturing energy in the room. It left everyone feeling grounded, connected, and truly recharged 🌼🌼💐
We wrapped it up with a gorgeous brunch.
Moments like these remind us how essential it is to pause, breathe, move, and nourish together. Huge thanks to Sian for creating such a magical space! 🩵🩵🩵

We attended part two of a training session on the updated Aistear Framework, Ireland's national framework guiding early learning and development for children from birth to six years. Aistear was launched in 2009, Aistear, meaning "journey" in Irish, was updated in 2024 to reflect changes in policy shifts, research advancements, and the lived experiences of young children today. The updated version places stronger emphasis on children's rights, relational pedagogy, diversity and inclusion, outdoor learning, wellbeing, sustainability, creativity, arts, emergent literacy and numeracy, STEM, and the meaningful integration of the Irish language in everyday interactions.
We are always learning 😀
