A big day for us all last Friday with the reveal of the restoration work to the clock, bell structure, and doors at St. Anne’s Church, Shandon.

It has been a real joy and privilege to be part of this project and to work alongside such a fantastic team.

Special thanks to Meghan Farr and the Select Vestry of St. Anne’s, Hearthstone Building and Restoration, Philip Stokes, and of course the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and Cork City Council for their generous support.

Photographed here are the ongoing repairs to the front door at St. Anne's, Shandon, dating to the 1700s. Looking forward to seeing them reinstated.

We've been busy over the past number of weeks undertaking surveys of historic buildings in Cork City. It's been intense but interesting exploring the streetscapes of the city to catalogue its historic fabric. Lots of gems to be found.

Extension at Knocklaun, Midleton, designed by James Bourke Architects and constructed by

The new extensions bring plenty of light and space into the living rooms of this 1800s home, while the original character of the front elevation is retained. The old stone walls are exposed internally to give texture and warmth to house, reflected by the buff coloured brick used to clad the extensions 🧱

St Anne's Belltower. The old access route to the top reminded us of an Esher print 🪜 🪜 🪜

James Bourke Architects are delighted to be working as part of the team to prepare a Conservation Management Plan for St. Anne's. This project has been awarded funding under the 2024 Community Monuments Fund, and it is hoped that the plan will pave the way for necessary repair works in future years.

Lovely to visit this restoration project now that the clients have settled in. The works included the installation of a new orangery to better connect the house to its beautiful gardens, along with thermal upgrades and renovations throughout.

Delighted that this design for a contemporary home in East Cork was granted planning permission this week 👌

The design centres on the creation of a sheltered courtyard incorporating overhangs to blur the transition between indoors and outdoors. The courtyard acts as an extension of the living area and can be used rain or shine.
