"Uisce ร‰ireann has told an Oireachtas committee that demand for water in the Greater Dublin area is so high that it cannot be met without taking water from the River Shannon. Is this going to be another decision going against the wishes of the people? ๐Ÿค”" ๐Ÿž๐Ÿ’ง

"In our opinion, this would be very destructive for all the surrounding communities along the River Shannon."

The "Joint" Effort: Ireland's Bold Step Toward Drug Policy Reform

In a move that's sure to spark plenty of conversation (and a few puns), Ireland's Joint Committee on Drugs Use published its much-anticipated Final Report on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The committee, made up of TDs and Senators, delivered a comprehensive 161 recommendations aimed at shifting Ireland's approach to drugs from a primarily criminal justice model to a health-led one.

Key highlights include a strong call to repeal Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977, effectively decriminalizing possession of drugs for personal use. The report covers a wide range of areas: family and community supports, intergenerational trauma, addiction and wellbeing, youth substance use, neurodiversity, women's specific needs, the National Drugs Strategy, nitrous oxide, and broader legal/policy reforms.

Happy fathers day to all. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Happy Father's Day.

Today we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who helped shape our lives.

The men who worked hard, offered guidance, shared stories, taught lessons, and stood by their families through good times and difficult ones.

Whether they are with us today or remembered with love, their influence lives on in the values, traditions, and memories they passed down.

Wishing all fathers a very Happy Father's Day.

History that surrounds our beautiful city of Limerick.

1369: The Gaelic Resurgence โ€“ Thomond Reclaims Limerick. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿฐ

In 1369 AD, the forces of the Irish kingdom of Thomond (Tuadhmhumhain), led by Brian Bรกn Ua Briain and supported by key allies, marched on their former capital โ€” the strategically vital city of Limerick, then held by the Anglo-Norman English.

The Gaels decisively defeated the English army in open battle at Monasteranenagh (also known as Manister-an-Eanagh or Monasteranensgh), in the meadows near the Cistercian abbey. Victorious, they pressed the advantage and successfully besieged and captured Limerick.

This triumph allowed Thomond to reassert control over the city. Sioda Cam Mac Con Mara was installed as warden of Limerick, marking a significant Gaelic victory during a period of renewed Irish resistance against English rule in Munster.

King John's Castle, the formidable Norman fortress overlooking the River Shannon, stood as a central symbol of English power in the region. Its capture (or the threat of it) in the wake of the battle represented a major symbolic and strategic blow to colonial control in 14th-century Ireland.
