History is not just about the big national events, it is also about the families and communities in towns and villages across the country.

New Drone Capability for Limerick Civil Defence

Limerick Civil Defence is delighted to strengthen our emergency response capability with the addition of a new DJI Matrice 4TD Drone System.

Equipped with advanced technology, the system will support: ✅ Search and Rescue
✅ Missing Person Searches
✅Search and Rescue
✅ Emergency Response Operations
✅ Incident Assessment and Situational Awareness

Our Drone Team is currently completing familiarisation and operational training and will be ready to deploy from 1 November 2026.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Department of Defence, Civil Defence Branch, and Steven Hayes, Clare Civil Defence Officer for their ongoing support and commitment to developing drone capabilities within Civil Defence.

We returned from a well-earned summer break this evening and hit the ground running with a Radio Exercise for our current Recruit Class and Volunteers.

This allowed for us to practice multiple different areas testing radio discipline, message handling, observation skills, relayed communication, command and control and incident reporting through Limerick City and County.

We also took the opportunity to test new control procedures that we hope to bring online very soon.
