Revised National Development Plan delivers €1bn for Cork rail expansion and new stations 26/11/2025

The Midwest Region has been relegated to the third division with today's National Development Plan announcement. While Cork will be the beneficiary of an entire commuter rail system amounting to over a billion in investment, Clare and Limerick are getting nothing at all, despite a commuter rail system, and rail link to Shannon Airport, being much more deliverable here than in Cork. Where do our government TDs and Senators stand on this? And what about our opposition TDs and Senators? Did any of them lobby at all for this infrastructure that would drive economic growth in the region more than any other?

Proposed Greenway extension to Limerick city now in doubt 17/09/2025

It appears that the current government are putting the brakes on the development of the greenway network. I hope it's not true. This particular one, from Limerick City to the existing greenway at Rathkeale, would have been a major economic benefit to our city and county. When in government we did a lot of work to get these projects going. We need to see them finished out, not halted.

Proposed Greenway extension to Limerick city now in doubt The project was hoped to build on the success of the Greenway in recent years.

It beggars belief that some people want more cars and fewer homes in Limerick City.

Planning submitted for new railway station in Limerick city 29/08/2025

It's great to see this happening at last. But progress needs to be faster and we need to see plans and a commitment for funding for new stations at all the locations highlighted in the Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (Raheen, Ballysimon, Corbally, Parkway, etc) and the long awaited spur to Shannon Airport. It doesn't make sense to build just one new station. A whole metropolitan / commuter rail system is possible for this region by using existing railway lines.
