In Tribute to P***y O’Connor

It is with great sadness that Abbeyfeale RFC remembers our friend and clubman, P***y O’Connor.

P***y’s association with Abbeyfeale RFC stretched across many years and many roles. He was a former player and Vice Captain, a team manager, Bar Manager and Referee Liaison Officer. Whatever the job, P***y was always willing to play his part and support the club.

But P***y’s contribution to Abbeyfeale RFC was about much more than the positions he held.

He was one of those people who became part of the fabric of the club — someone whose presence, friendship and commitment helped make Abbeyfeale RFC the place it is today. From his playing days on the pitch, to supporting teams from the sideline, looking after things in the clubhouse and welcoming referees on match days, P***y gave generously of his time to the club.

Rugby clubs are built not only by the players who take the field, but by the people who remain involved year after year, doing whatever needs to be done and passing their love of the club on to the next generation. P***y was very much one of those people.

Many teammates, players, coaches, members and visitors to Abbeyfeale RFC will have their own memories of P***y, and his contribution to the club will be remembered with great affection.

We extend our deepest sympathies to P***y’s family, relatives and many friends at this very difficult time.

Thank you for everything, P***y.

All at the club would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Walsh family, Brosna following the sudden death of Noreen on Sunday. Noreen’s son Gerard and son-in-law Stevie have played active roles in the club over the years as both players and team management. Our thoughts are with the Walsh family at this sad time. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

All roads lead to Tralee next Sunday for the Galwey Foley Cup final. Kick off at 2pm. Thanks to all who travelled to Killorglin for the game Sunday, the team really appreciated your support and hope to see you in O’Dowd Park on Sunday 20th.

Putting out the call for some volunteers to give a hand on Sunday mornings with minis rugby. If you are interested in joining our mini’s team of coaches and volunteers, the grove on Sunday is the place for you. No previous experience required, we will show you the ropes. Contact Matt if interested in bringing along the next generation of Munster players.

Quick reminder that u16s girls rugby is back at Abbeyfeale RFC. Training takes place at the Grove, Abbeyfeale, on Sundays from 11-12, and we are always happy to have new players, with or without rugby experience! Thinking of trying a new sport, why not give rugby a try? We look forward to seeing everyone there! 🏉☀️

Juniors playing their second Kerry/McElligot Cup this Sunday when we travel back to Killorglin. Delighted with the support in Castleisland last weekend and would appreciate the same this Sunday as the lads look to build on last week’s win.

Have your kids grown out of their club kit? Pass it on to the next generation of Abbeyfeale RFC players! Our minis in the photo above are wearing recycled Abbeyfeale tops and jumpers, and we are always appreciative of any donations. If you’d like to pass on any gear to our minis, it can be dropped to the grove on Sunday mornings from 10-11 while training is on, or contact 087 695 4029 to organise alternative drop offs!
