Doras's Refugee Week Café 2026. Thank you to everyone who came and supported 😁

“My plate is a perfect metaphor for integration and diversity: I’ve got food from six different countries on it!”

One of our guests summed up our Refugee Week Café perfectly.💜

The event was a huge success, proof of it was that all the food was gone within an hour!

A big thank you to Darren Ryan from Pigtown Media for the beautiful photos, and to Limerick City and County Council for their generous support and funding.

Most importantly, thank you to the incredible members of our communities who prepared and shared dishes filled with love, spices, and fresh ingredients, and for showcasing your culture and heritage so proudly. Your contribution made this event possible.❤️

And this is what Refugee Week is all about: bringing communities together to celebrate our differences and our common humanity.

Today, major changes to Ireland’s asylum system come into effect.

The new International Protection Act 2026 introduces faster asylum and return procedures, expands the use of detention, and reduces some protections for vulnerable people.

We know many people have questions about what these changes mean. Our FAQs explain the new system and will be updated as more information becomes available: https://doras.org/know-your-rights/new-international-protection-rules

Doras will continue supporting people and families navigating the asylum process and we will be closely monitoring how rights are protected, especially for vulnerable applicants.

Call it by its name: the scenes being witnessed in Northern Ireland are racist, anti-immigrant protests.

Far-right agitators are using a violent crime to spread hate and division amongst communities. They are blaming entire groups for the actions of one individual.

These violent agitators are making communities across Northern Ireland feel unsafe and afraid. The victim's family has also repudiated this violence.

We stand in solidarity with the victim of the stabbing attack and we stand in solidarity with minoritised communities who are being scapegoated by opportunistic groups who do not have the best interest of the local communities at heart.

Starting in August 2026, state-provided accommodation for Ukrainians in Ireland will begin to be phased out, with the process expected to end by March 2027.

People who are considered vulnerable will be able to apply to remain in accommodation support.
Doras can help you understand and navigate these changes. Contact us for free and confidential support at www.doras.org/contact.

We will continue to advocate for Ukrainians who have made Ireland their home over the past number of years, and who have contributed to and integrated into communities across the country.
