Day 3 of the Vision Trip kicked off with a training session/induction with Michelle and Aldon who founded "Fun in a Tub,” which was created to give teachers in under resourced areas an easy tool to teach kids.

It's important that children have fun when learning, so these Fun in a Tubs are distributed to ECDs along with training to the teachers on how to use them. They contain simple items such as dice, shapes, pegs, and a ball, which leads to 150+ activities.

We then set out to two ECDs to implement them. We split into groups and played different games with the students, which encouraged learning through fun, making designs with shapes, and developing motor skills with ball and peg games. Through Fun in a Tub, we saw firsthand how important it is for children to get a good head start in their early development in order to set them up for a better future.

The Vision Trip was an emotional one for all of us, seeing the impact of our Plate 4 Plate initiative in real time. This is our why 💚

Day 2 of our Vision Trip was a busy day, with several visits to different Early Childhood Development Centres, such as Little Angels and Morning Star.

These ECDs get support from Plate 4 Plate partner Rise Against Hunger not only with the meal donations, but with infrastructure, plumbing, electrical support, and so much more.

The day finished off visiting A Place of Hope, a community support hub for the township where Rise Against Hunger have helped support and developed their first sustainable farming venture in South Africa, where the teams explained how the farms run and our team got to get their hands dirty and assist with planting new crops.

2 weeks ago, 18 members of the Zambrero network, including two of our own, Abi and Paul, went to Johannesburg for a life-changing Vision Trip with our charity partner, Rise Against Hunger to get a chance to witness firsthand the life changing impact of our Plate 4 Plate initiative and the communities it helps support.

We started off strong at the Rise Against Hunger warehouse, where we packed 6,480 meals. If you were with us in Cork last October, you know how crazy and fun a meal packing day can be!

Next, we visited one of the Early Childhood Development Centres, meeting the children who receive these meals, putting faces to the numbers we see on the counters.

Today was all about THE MEAL, reminding us how it really means so much more than just a singular meal to the communities here. Stay tuned for our Day 2 update next week.
