A beautiful way to clear stored memories and help to reset the nervous system ♥️

When it comes to healing trauma, psychology isn’t unimportant, however, when we work with a body-up approach, we can reset the overactive triggers in our threat detection systems.

When the body is calm and we’ve quieted its protective reflexes, we can make more space to talk.

Traumatic events, as well as the stresses of our day-to-day lives, have a powerful physiological impact. Our bodies can get stuck in protective, survival gestures; we speed up to survive, we fight or we flee, we collapse, disappear or dissociate.

When these old parts of our nervous system are stuck in these survival gestures, we don’t think clearly, emote clearly, or remember clearly.

We all have an 'inner guard dog', and when our guard dog is activated it either barks all the time or cowers in the shed. It’s very hard to talk to this inner guard dog – it likes to run, jump, fight or shut down. Having a long conversation with your guard dog won’t do much good!

However, you can train your inner guard dog, stroke your guard dog, and nourish your guard dog, so that instead of barking or cowering in the shed, it can play with the kids and only bark in the middle of the night if it needs too.

When we’re in ‘guard dog’ mode, we get stuck in the quick, primitive reflexes that are underneath our cognitive abilities – we can’t think clearly.

When this happens, we need to help our physiology shift out of its stuck, protective reflexes first.

This is an amazing thing to offer to people in trauma.

Instead of talking about the trauma, the essential thing is helping our bodies to feel free in the present moment and find safety in the present moment.

It's why I love teaching TRE (Trauman and Tension Releasing Exercises). For many people, not having to talk about their trauma, being relatively anonymous in a group setting and doing something that’s purely about finding agency and strength in your body is key to working with trauma in a positive and generative way.

Hello lovely beings,

I hope this post finds you well and navigating this new, changed world.
Like this beautiful peony,I am experiencing a soft closing with my work.... a time to recharge and re-evaluate how I show up in service. And I'm beginning with myself. The clinic will be closed till further notice and may emerge in a new form.
May you find some help in the posts below and trust your own inner healer to call towards you those you need to support you.
In love and light,
Rachael 💜

Blessed to have had many beautiful people to walk with me on my healing path.

May you find that support as you reach out for it ❤️

“Deciding to actively heal is terrifying because it means opening up to hope. For many survivors, hope has brought only disappointment. Although it is terrifying to say yes to yourself, it is also a tremendous relief when you finally stop and face your own demons. There is something about looking terror in the face, and seeing your own reflection, that is strangely relieving. There is comfort in knowing that you don't have to pretend anymore, that you are going to do everything within your power to heal. As one survivor put it, "I know now that every time I accept my past and respect where I am in the present, I am giving myself a future."

I have a daily email from this beautiful man Padraig O’ Morain.
Today’s one is beautifully timed.

After a mind expanding, heartwarming conversation with a gorgeous woman about how we show up in the world and how we create our world of wellness and health ( she’s a woman with feet in both camps ( allopathic and alternative) like myself, I am brimming with ideas and opportunities.

This reminder to ground, to set realistic intentions is my medicine today. Along with the sea 💜

As I stay up far too late, knowing a sleep in is possible tomorrow, this sends me to bed.

Blessed ❤️

“That’s not for me!” How your self-concept may be limiting you without you even knowing - Therapists in Galway 05/04/2022

I have only read the first few paragraphs of this article, so I'm partly posting this on here as a reminder to myself to make more time to read and absorb it fully.

But to be totally honest, this is the article I have been writing in my head since I got Covid 4 weeks ago. And like Roisin, I have got sidelined by my self-concept that I'm too busy being a mom to share the stuff that lights me up or make me wonder, or things makes me so curious I stay awake wondering (of course, that's also the perimenopause symptoms re-awakened post Covid too.....and that's my next subject matter sorted!) till the silly hours.

So for now, read these great words from this wise woman and I'll be along soon again with mine

“That’s not for me!” How your self-concept may be limiting you without you even knowing - Therapists in Galway by Dr Róisín Joyce Lead Clinical Psychologist I have been thinking a lot about the importance of self-concept and more specifically how our beliefs about ourselves can limit us without us even realising. Sitting here writing this blog is a big achievement for me given the amount of work I had to e...

Brigit - Soulsmith, Poet, Healer: Celebration, Meditation, Excavation 28/01/2022

Hello lovelies,
Following a death of a dear soul sister recently, I was reminded she was very much in love with the mythology of Brigid. Whether you follow religion, myth, nature medicine or just your own internal knowing, the story of Brigid as a healer, poet, smith etc is empowering to us all, I believe. This event tomorrow evening has some beautiful wisdom keepers sharing their stories and knowledge.

Blessings to you all in love and connection to our wonderful feminine energy xx

Sending love and Chi blessings to all our wild hearts

Outrage is part of our healing.

Don't let anyone try to shuffle you away from your anger.

Anger is a wise, cleansing force alerting you to the truth of your worth and to the truth within you.

It's a necessary step in recovering from being violated, personally and collectively.

Don't rush out of your outrage, listen to it and harness it as fuel for wise, informed action on your own behalf. Your anger is part of your power.

Do what so few dare to do: Give your anger a safe, empathic space to be fully, completely felt. Harness it, listen to it.

To the degree that you allow yourself to do so, is the degree to which you can increasingly own your power without apology.

Anger has so many gifts. Not indiscriminate, projected anger, but the energy of outrage, felt and placed where it truly belongs. Anger has an inner alchemy that heals and isn't contingent on external validation.

Collective female outrage is a nectar that this world needs.
