FLOODING UPDATE FROM Wexford County Council...

"River levels continue to rise in Co. Wexford this evening and surface water is building on all routes across the county. Motorists should avoid Enniscorthy town this afternoon as traffic is currently at a standstill.

"Please do not to bring children anywhere near flooded areas as the water is flowing rapidly and there may be underlying manholes that have become dislodged and other debris from lands and the river. At this point, flood waters should be treated as contaminated.

"Our Lady’s Island Lake is currently at risk of flooding onto the road so be careful in the vicinity.

"There is a very significant risk of flooding in Enniscorthy town again tonight and over the next 24 hours.

"Wexford County Council teams are on site in Enniscorthy and around the county where there is an imminent risk of serious flooding and river gauges are constantly monitored.

"Please take care on all roads, local and national, as water is accumulating in places – be especially mindful on dark or quieter roads where flooding may not be obvious.

The County Council emergency line is open 24 hours on 05391 96000 if you are impacted by flooding.

Life-threatening situations should be reported to the Emergency Services on 999 / 112 and the relevant agency will be informed.

Please heed public safety advice as follows:

Weather conditions can change rapidly at the minute, and people should keep up to date with local warnings on Wexford County Council Social Media channels for information on road closures, flooding updates, and community alerts
Allow for disruption when commuting over the coming days.
Plan extra travel time and reduce speed.
Expect surface water, debris, and poor visibility.
Stay back from riverbanks, streams, and canals – water levels can rise quickly.
Keep children and pets away from waterways and flooded areas.
Do not ignore Road Closed signs – when the road ahead is unsafe, the damage may be hidden beneath water, and you may be putting your life at risk.
Do not drive through floodwater – turn back and use another route.
Keep away from coastal edges, harbours, piers, and low-lying promenades during high tide.
The Irish Coast Guard advice remains: “Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry.”
Check in with neighbours, older people or anyone who may need assistance in case conditions worsen.
Check with Transport Operators when planning journeys."
