This is a fascinating and scary article to read. It's a bit on the technical side, but the implications concern all of us on the web - especially those of us who develop for it. I think the main take away is that you should use npm dependencies, but certainly be aware of what's going into your project. There are very good audit tools you can use to check your dependencies and see what's going in / on.

Hold onto your seats!

Over the past few months Webinate has been doing some contract work with a company called ViaSat and today, ViaSat are launching their new satellite ‘ViaSat2’ into space tonight! We’re extremely excited about it.

For those who don’t know, ViaSat are international technology and broadband service company working with a broad spectrum of organisations to ensure they have communication access regardless of where they are on Earth.

The new satellite will go into geostationary orbit and it is expected to greatly improve broadband speed and reduce costs globally and on aeronautical and maritime routes. Its launch will take place from the Guiana Space Center located in Kourou, French Guiana at 12pm tonight.

We are going to be up late tonight here in the office watching the satellite. Feel free to join in:

Webinate has been very fortunate to be working with ViaSat over the last few months, and tonight is a very big night indeed. Tonight at 12pm GMT, ViaSat will be launching a new satellite into space. The satellite will be operational some time next year if all goes to plan, with the aim of bringing internet connectivity to aircraft around the world. Some very excited people in the office today. The rocket is prepped in the docking bay and crew are doing final system checks. More to come!
