đąToday marks the launch of Report 10 in the Childrenâs School Lives (CSL) study:
đ«Primary School Matters: Everyday Living and Learning in Childrenâs School Lives.
đąThe CSL study, involving almost 4,000 children across 184 primary schools, provides a unique insight into childrenâs everyday experiences of schooling.
đCSL Report 10 brings together findings from across Reports 1-9 to identify the factors that influence childrenâs learning most in school. It draws on findings from the five years of the study, examining childrenâs learning outcomes, and what shapes them.
đ§đŠThe report looks at what schools and classrooms are like, and at the everyday ways learning and teaching happen within them.
CSL Report 10 findings show:
đŁChildren from more well-off families report higher wellbeing than those who experience poverty.
đŁWider societal structures, school composition and local context actively shape classroom learning cultures.
đŁA strong link between wealth/poverty and how well children do with reading and mathematics. For example, children in DEIS schools and those experiencing poverty achieve lower results in Standardised Tests (Mathematics and Reading).
