wo separate occasions Barbara’s family had to go looking for her and bring her home. This caused stress for both Barbara and her family and friends. Unfortunately, on the last walk Barbara went on she never came home. Barbara’s family and friends had looked for her all night but they were unable to find her. Barbara was eventually found lying on the hillside of Howth head. Barbara passed away in hospital that night. Barbara’s family had tried to help. This was the hardest part of Barbara taking her own life and what the family find the hardest to accept. Barbara was seen by a psychiatrist that day. Barbara’s story is a very sad one. Unfortunately, this story has become common place in modern society. This started me thinking. Is there an idea I could come with that would help people with mental health issues and help preserve the memory of Barbara and all the good she did in her life and make sure her story remains told so it can help others? I came up with the idea of having an app that could be down loaded to your phone and other devices. This would be supported by a drop in centre. I believed that the two could be very useful to people dealing with mental health issues. I decided to call the App B.A.B.S. after Barbara. It also stands for Be Aware Be safe. This is targeted at the person using the app. If the user can be more aware of themselves and their surrounding they can learn to keep themselves safe. The app is about empowerment. Giving the user the right tools and training to set clear plans with set goals. The app also give the user the ability to look at how far they have come. The app allows the user to document what works for them. The app can also be used to help with treatment.
