Posted • The have once again updated their guidelines for COVID19 and pregnancy 🤰🏻 This post is a summary of the recommendations in updates 6 and 7, with three previous posts summarising updates 1-5. Any questions, let me know 🙏🏼
👫 ‘Women should be permitted and encouraged to have a birth partner present with them in their labour and during birth’. However this may not be possible if your chosen birth partner is symptomatic of COVID-19, or if you require an emergency Caesarean section where you have to be ‘put asleep’ (general anaesthetic)
Your partner may be asked not to leave your bedside/room .
🚬 While cessation of smoking is recommended in pregnancy anyway, smoking is likely associated with worse outcomes for COVID-19, and so we emphasise the need to stop smoking in pregnancy again .
😥 This period of uncertainty is likely to induce worry and anxiety in people. This should be acknowledged and appropriate referrals to psychological therapies should be made .
🦠 Unlike other viral infections, pregnant women do not appear to be worse affected with COVID-19 than others. This was reflected in a case series from New York. .
🩸 There is some evidence that COVID-19 makes your blood more likely to clot. Given that pregnancy is also a risk factor for clots, if you have COVID-19 you may require medication to help prevent this. Your maternity unit will assess if you need this .
📞 If asked to attend in person for a scan or appointment, please do. Your unit have deemed this essential.
And if you are worried about ANYTHING, please phone +/- attend your local maternity unit.
😷 If you are in a high risk group, or , your maternity unit should be altered to this for all appointments. It is recommended you wear a mask at hospital visits, that you don’t wait in waiting rooms, and where possible you be given a private room when admitted. .
🏠 If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and are self isolating at home, it is important to stay well hydrated and mobile (try to move around the house).
Please let me know if you have any questions or want any of the links!

Love this picture about male fertility! Very true male subfertility is on the increase so it is more important then ever to look after those swimmers!!

Be the one with the plan! A few facts:
• Each ej*******on contains about 200 million s***m cells.
• The formation of s***m requires significant amount of nutrient expenditure. Some of these include zinc, selenium, vitamin E, folate, B12 and vitamin C.
• S***m cells can survive up to 7 days in the female reproductive tract, especially close to the cervix.
• Although millions of s***m are produced daily, it takes 2.5 to 3 months to fully mature.
• Male fertility and testosterone are on the decline worldwide.
• What can you do to help maintain the quality of your swimmers? Keep your BMI under 25, engage in regular exercise, eat a nutrient-rich diet with lots of antioxidants, avoid smoking and second hand smoke, keep caffeine consumption at moderate levels, avoid hot baths and hot tubs, keep your laptop and cell phone away from your groin.
• Classically in Chinese medicine, seeds are recommended to optimize s***m and this makes sense given the beneficial fats in them. Be sure to purchase organic from a busy bulk bin so that there is a better chance of freshness. Avoid pre-roasted seeds as they tend to be oxidized.
• We have found acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to be very useful in the treatment of male infertility.
