Been experimenting lately with that push and pull feeling in the groove.
Resampling vocals through the Roland VT4 and reversing bits of percussion.
That psychoacoustic influence for me mainly comes from the Birmingham techno sound. There’s something hypnotic but tough about it that I’ve always loved.
The Yamaha RM1X swing has been great for this as well. It really has a natural groove to the drums and it’s such a warm sounding machine(Thanks again Jay)
Also been trying a timer when building grooves. The limitation of time seems to make decisions easier.

Been recording loads lately and really happy with how much music I’ve made so far this year.
Simplified the setup and set up a new effects chain on the Model 24 with the SE-70( Thanks Jay ) OTO Boum and RE 20 Space Echo.
Stripped the machines back and found myself drawn to the 909 sound more and more this year.
Just groove and functionality really.

Next Saturday I’m warming up live for Moritz von Oswald at Tengu in Dublin.

His work has had a lasting influence on how I approach music and still inspires me today. M5 is one of my favourite records. That simplicity and groove are hard to beat.

It’s been a few years since I last played the club and I’m really looking forward to this one.

Limited tickets available via Resident Advisor.

I got some time this year through a Music Agility Award to do a bit of reading around Irish electronic music.

I didn’t realise people here were experimenting with tape and electronics as far back as the 50s and 60s. RTÉ even had an Experimental Music Studio where people were cutting tape and figuring things out as they went.

It surprised me. Not in a big way, just enough to make me stop and think about where things actually come from.

Curious how other people see it.

What does Irish electronic music mean to you?

I first bought a DSI Evolver around 2010 and sold it when I moved to Australia, never really got the hang of it back then.
Picked up another one a few years ago off an artist from Belgium and it’s only recently started to click, especially with the new overlay.

The custom Xoxbox ( thanks Jay ) also got a makeover and is back in the fold :) #303

Machine Flow.
Loose hardware jams — no edits, no screens. Just chasing grooves and textures straight from the boxes. Dubby, gritty, hypnotic.

Built live on the fly with the EMX, Rytm, Blackbox, RM1X and a few others.

Just back from a few days in Detroit, and still taking it all in.

Spent time with , dropped into , and caught a moment seeing my new record on the shelf at . Visited — powerful place, serious legacy.

Hit the party at , had some proper conversations, and wrapped things up at Zuzu. Solid food, good people, music everywhere.

Grateful for the moments and the city. Detroit stays with you. 313 ❤️
