If you work in events today, a last-minute schedule change means a few messages and an updated call sheet.
But there was a time when a last-minute call after a long show meant a very different kind of night than the one you'd planned, and getting to where you needed to be by morning was something you either sorted or you didn't - no shortcut and no backup plan.
This Then & Now video is a good reminder of how much has changed, and what it took to do this work before it got easier.

Picture ten countries, one trophy, and a camera rolling on every mystery basket reveal.
That was the brief for Aramark's International Chefs' Cup 2026: capture the competition as it happened, then hand teams a gala evening that felt like a céilí, not a corporate dinner. Our video crews chased every reaction across two teaching kitchens, cutting each day's competition into a highlight film before the next round even started. While the cameras ran, our design team shaped what guests would walk into that evening: a green carpet entrance, a Culinary Céilí forest and themed lifts that carried the Aramark brand throughout.
Three venues, one narrative, and not a beat lost between them.

Some stories from a career in production sound made up (but we swear this one isn't).
There are moments in the events industry that no job description prepares you for, and showing up to deliver a hard drive only to end up in a kitchen asking a stranger where the milk is is one of them.
Who that stranger turned out to be is what makes this short story worth watching.

Booking venue, catering, production, and entertainment separately often looks like the cheaper option on paper. On the day, it can mean suppliers meeting for the first time with different assumptions about the brief, and no one owning the gaps between them.
Part two of 'Unravelling the red thread' looks at what happens when entertainment and production aren't in the room together from the start, and why that gap tends to surface on the event day itself.
AVCOM plans entertainment and production as one process from the first call, so nothing gets left to chance once the doors open.

Thirty years ago, an event ran on a mixing desk and a truckload of flightcases. Today it runs on show control systems, LED walls, broadcast-grade video, and a growing layer of AI, but the goal has never changed: get a room full of people to feel something they are still talking about on the way home.
Our Managing Director, Paul Murphy, has spent every one of those thirty years building events across Ireland. He has pulled four lessons from that time, one from each part of what an event production agency actually does, written for anyone who plans events in-house or hires the right partner to help.

Loved Slide Step? The skill is knowing when they fit, and AVCOM makes that call before the act is booked.
Founded in 2013, Slide Step won Best Corporate Entertainer at the Event Industry Awards during one of its earliest appearances, and has since performed at corporate events, conferences, and awards ceremonies across Ireland, the UK, and mainland Europe. Slide Step has grown into one of Ireland’s most sought-after Irish dance ensembles. Their style: hard-shoe rhythms delivered with precision and real energy.
This is the kind of energy that turns up in the room when you hand AVCOM your entertainment brief.

Six hundred employees walked into a fully operational manufacturing facility for their company town hall, and the site never stopped running.
For Silent-Aire, AVCOM transformed a live manufacturing facility into a safe, professional event space without disrupting the operations. Dedicated production zones kept the event separate from the working site, and strict safety protocols ran throughout. A raised stage and three large LED screens created an engaging town hall experience, while our independent power infrastructure ensured every element of the production operated seamlessly from start to finish.
This is what production means at AVCOM: understanding a live working environment and building a safe, professional experience within it.

Every event professional has a story about something going wrong at the worst possible moment.
Imagine hiring a projector and encountering an issue as your audience is walking in. Sounds like a nightmare, but that's exactly what happened to Tony in this 'Then & Now' episode.
The cause (and the fix)? Something you would never expect.
The standards in the events industry have come a long way since then, and stories like this one are exactly why.
