There's a version of live entertainment in events that brings a crowd together in minutes, and another version that makes 300 people wish they were somewhere else. Truth is that the difference rarely comes down to talent alone.

This episode of 'Unravelling the red thread' asks a harder question: what does it take to genuinely move a large audience?

We get into the mechanics of engagement at scale, how the most powerful moments are engineered, the instincts that separate good performers from great ones, and why choosing the right entertainment is a strategic decision.

Trinity College Dublin Global's first ever TEDx needed to hold two things at once: the globally recognised TEDx visual identity and the heritage of one of Ireland's most prestigious institutions.

Bespoke iconic staging, integrated technical production, seamless presenter experience, and a broadcast-quality production setup built a benchmark for every edition that follows.

Being an island nation changes everything. When you can't truck equipment across a border, you figure it out yourself.

That self-sufficiency shaped an entire generation of Irish event professionals, and the standard of production here today reflects every bit of that hard work.

Ask anyone who spent hours aligning and blending multiple projectors across the RDS Simmons Court, and they'll tell you how much the industry has moved on. The journey has been remarkable.

Then, the island was a limitation. Now, it's the reason the standard is what it is.

Most events are still built in silos, where venue, production, and entertainment are all sourced and booked separately. Each supplier doing their job, but nobody working from the same page.

When teams that have never spoken meet for the first time on the day, the cracks show. Operationally, yes. But the bigger loss is the creative one: the opportunities nobody saw coming, and the audience that feels the disconnect even if they can't name it.

The second conversation in 'Unravelling the red thread' goes there. Because the fix isn't complicated: bring everyone in early, and watch what becomes possible when production and entertainment are building toward the same vision from the start.

The best entertainment at an event is the kind people don't realise they're part of.

There's a shift that happens when attendees move from watching to doing, moving from passive observation to shared, in-the-room experience. It's the difference between an event people sit through and one they carry with them.

In a world where AI-generated content is everywhere, IRL moments have never mattered more. Being physically present for something live, something collective, something that only exists in that room at that time, is irreplaceable.

In the first episode of 'Unravelling the red thread', we explore how to design events for active participation and authentic experience.

Every career has a starting point that feels uncertain at the time.

Before large-scale productions, there were smaller steps. Learning the craft, taking risks, and backing instinct over expectation.

This Then & Now story reflects on those early decisions. Choosing the industry over a traditional path, investing in the tools to move forward, and navigating the reactions that come with doing things differently.

A reminder that progress is often personal before it becomes visible, and that experience is built long before it is recognised.

Most post-event debriefs focus on what went wrong with the act. Rarely on what went wrong before it.

The gap between entertainment and production is one of the most avoidable problems in live events, yet it's one of the least talked about. Not because it's rare, but because it's easy to misattribute. A performance that doesn't land isn't always a talent issue. Often, it's a coordination one.

Our latest insight covers what changes when you treat both as a single workflow from day one and what integration looks like in practice.

If you're planning events in 2026, this blog is definitely worth a read.
