Charleville Mall Library in the north inner-city opened in 1900 & is the oldest working public library in Dublin City.

It was damaged by fire in 1987 & refurbished & restocked in 1990. Automatic doors, a public toilet & fresh paintwork were added in 2023.

We were delighted to help the Intercultural Language Service celebrate 10 years of intercultural storytelling in the inner city with a range of brilliant events during the week. The highlight was definitely the food party with craic agus ceol on Friday afternoon.

"Moored under the trees of Charleville Mall Father Conmee saw a turfbarge, a towhorse with pendent head, a bargeman with a hat of dirty straw seated amidships, smoking and staring at a branch of poplar above him."

June is here and we all know what that means...Join us on June 16 at 3pm for a public script reading of Ghost of Joyce in Charleville Mall in honour of Bloomsday. No booking required! Presented by Uncut Diamonds.

Everyone is welcome to Dubylon, a plurilingual creative writing workshop. Dubylon is a trans-lational, national, lingual project rooted in the language and poetry of Dublin while reaching across the waters and world to bring fresh phrases to the project.

If you are interested in language, if you speak a few, if you’ve come a long way to be here you are welcome to join in. Participants will be translating poems about Dublin, writing new poems about Dublin, and digging down into the mud of Dublin and just making stuff up. Kumonalong and join in the wor(l)d play!

Today we celebrate with a peek at our poetry collection(s)- old hand or budding versifier, we have something for you.

[...] I inclined
To lose my faith in Ballyrush and Gortin
Till Homer’s ghost came whispering to my mind.
He said: I made the Iliad from such
A local row. Gods make their own importance.
