As we enjoy this beautiful summer weather and celebrate Father’s Day, Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue would like to remind everyone to stay safe around the water this weekend.

Whether you’re fishing, boating, swimming, paddleboarding, or simply spending time with family along the river or coast, please take a few extra moments to think about your safety. Wear a lifejacket where appropriate, keep an eye on children at all times, and be aware of changing conditions.

Our volunteers are always ready to respond when needed, but prevention is always the best rescue.

We’d also like to wish all fathers, grandfathers, and father figures a very Happy Father’s Day. Not forgetting about all the fantastic fathers in heaven.
Enjoy the weekend, make great memories with your loved ones, and most importantly, stay safe around the water.

Respect the water. It could save your life.

It all began on the River Boyne…

What started as local fishermen helping each other while fishing the Boyne grew into something much greater.
Following a long standing tradition where fishermen would stop fishing and join searches for missing people on the river, Michael Hodgins and fellow founding members helped establish the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue & Recovery Service.

The organisation has grown into a respected voluntary rescue service, responding to calls across all 32 counties of Ireland for missing person search’s while remaining true to its roots on the river 24/7 365 where it all started.

A remarkable journey that began with fishing on the Boyne and continues today through dedication, courage and community spirit.

On Thursday, 11th June, we were delighted to welcome a local Scout group to our boathouse for an informative and enjoyable visit.

The Scouts had the opportunity to learn all about what we do as a rescue service, take a tour of the boathouse, and get a close look at the equipment we use during callouts and training exercises.

We were also joined by the Order of Malta, who kindly brought along one of their ambulances. The Scouts enjoyed a guided tour of the vehicle and learned about the equipment carried on board and the important role the ambulance service plays in the community.

It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and interest from the young people throughout the visit. Two of the Scouts even told us they can’t wait to join when they’re older and become part of the rescue service themselves!

A big thank you to our very own crew members , the Scouts and the Order of Malta for making it such a successful and enjoyable evening.

We were recently contacted by St John’s Ambulance to take part in a joint training exercise.

On Wednesday, 10th June, we teamed up and worked through four different scenarios designed to test our teamwork, communication, and emergency response skills. These included the recovery of a casualty from the water and the provision of first aid as part of a combined exercise.

Training exercises like these with all different types of other services are invaluable in strengthening cooperation between organisations and ensuring we are prepared to respond effectively when needed.

A big thank you to St John’s Ambulance for the opportunity to train together. We look forward to working with you again in the future.
