📘 New Blog Post – Busting the Myth That Maths Is All About Numbers

I’ve just published my November Mathsplanations Blog, and this month we’re taking on one of the biggest misconceptions in Maths — the idea that it’s all about numbers.

The truth is, Maths is really about patterns, logic, reasoning, structure and problem-solving. When students realise this, their confidence and understanding transform.

If your child has ever said “I’m just not a numbers person,” this post will change how they see the subject. 👇

📘 New Blog Post – The Importance of “Why” in Maths 💭

I’ve just shared my latest Mathsplanations Blog — and this one’s all about the power of asking why.

Too often, students learn the steps in Maths without really understanding the reasoning behind them. This post explores why that deeper understanding matters — and how it can transform confidence, results, and enjoyment.

If you’ve ever heard your child say “I just don’t get it,” this one’s worth a read. 👇

Three fruit boxes are on a table 🍏📦.
Each box is labelled: “Apples”, “Oranges”, and “Apples & Oranges” — but every label is wrong ❌.

You may open one box and take one fruit (without looking inside first) 👀🍎.
From that single fruit, how can you correctly relabel all three boxes? 🤔

✅ Puzzle #2 Solution – Logic in Action

Cara’s hat is red 🎩🔴

Why:

If Anna and Ben both saw two blue hats, Anna would immediately know hers must be red. But she doesn’t.

Ben then also doesn’t know, which means he must be seeing at least one red hat.

When Cara hears this, she realises she must be wearing the red hat!

This is how step-by-step deduction works in maths problems – using what we don’t know, and what others can’t know, to narrow down the possibilities.

👏 Did you get it right?

Why Logic Matters in Maths 🧠
Maths isn’t just about numbers – it’s about thinking clearly and logically.
Being able to deduce the right answer from limited information is a skill that helps:

Solve tricky exam questions

Spot mistakes in your work

Build confidence in problem-solving

That’s why every Sunday we share a puzzle designed to stretch logical thinking in a fun way. Ready for this week’s challenge? 👇

🧩 Sunday Puzzle #2 – The Hat Colours!

Anna, Ben, and Cara are each wearing a hat that is either red or blue.
They are told:

At least one hat is red

Everyone can see the others’ hats but not their own

Anna: “I don’t know my colour.”
Ben: “I don’t know my colour.”
Cara: “Now I know my colour!”

👉 What colour hat is Cara wearing?

Drop your guess below 👇 I’ll post the solution this evening!
