We are a project enabling Deaf and hard of hearing trainees, among others, to become bicycle mechanics.

The project will help to make bikes more accessible and divert hundreds of bikes that are currently ending up as scrap metal.

A big thank you to Lord Mayor Fergal Dennehy for attending our public Sign and Cycle free bike maintenance event. We’d also like to thank Cortado Coffee providing free coffee at the event.

Our team shared the basics of bike safety checks and maintenance at yesterday’s event in the Marina to help promote Bike Week.

This video introduces the most useful Irish Sign Language (ISL) signs for use in a bicycle workshop. It is designed to support clear communication between Deaf and hearing people while working on bike repairs and maintenance.

Part 4/8

You’ll learn practical signs related to:

Bicycle parts

Tools and equipment

Common repairs and adjustments

Workshop safety

Everyday workshop communication

This video is ideal for:

Bicycle mechanics and volunteers

Community bike workshops

Trainers and workshop owners

Anyone interested in learning practical ISL

No previous knowledge of Irish Sign Language is required. The signs are demonstrated clearly and at a steady pace, making it easy to follow along and practise.

Accessibility matters — let’s make bike workshops more inclusive.
