Electric Ireland has announced price increases of 8% on electricity and 7.7% on gas from 1st July, adding over €250 a year to the average household bill.

If your home isn’t well insulated, you’ll feel this increase even more. The good news is that SEAI grants can make a real difference, with heat pump grants of up to €12,500 available.

Greenify loans, offered through your local credit union, can help bridge the gap between the grant and the total upgrade cost.

Call 1800 911 797 or visit www.greenify.ie to find out more about the loan process.

June is one of Ireland's sunniest months according to Met Éireann, with up to 7 hours of direct sunshine and up to 17 hours of daylight per day.

On a good summer day, rooftop solar panels can generate 18 to 20 kWh, close to the average home's full daily electricity use.

The SEAI grant is currently worth up to €1,800. If there's a gap between the grant and the full cost of solar panels, a Greenify loan through your local credit union can help cover the shortfall.

To find out more, call 1800 911 797 or visit www.greenify.ie.

Cooperation amongst Cooperatives 🤝

We were delighted to welcome Zeleke Yibetale from the Ethiopian Cooperative Commission (ECC), along with Sinéad Lynam and Liam Morrissey from the ILCU International Development Foundation, to Cavan Credit Union.

Zeleke is the Head of Regulation for Savings and Credit Cooperatives (i.e. credit unions). The ECC is currently working on reforms aimed at strengthening cooperative societies as actors in Ethiopia’s domestic economy, including improvements to organisation, governance, market competitiveness, financial capacity, and regulatory oversight. The Foundation's current programme of support in Ethiopia seeks to increase access to finance for women and smallholders households. This will be achieved by building capacity to promote an inclusive, modern, and sustainable rural financial sector, working alongside key stakeholders including the ECC.

As part of the visit to Cavan, Julie Galligan, Head of Lending, and Hannah Daly, Business Development & Marketing, provided a background of the credit union, current operations, the products and services provided to members including the Cultivate loan product, and spoke about the challenges and successes of the credit union.

A valuable experience and a reminder of the power of cooperation 💚

June is a heavy month for cash going out on the farm.

As reported by Agriland, Teagasc is encouraging farmers to do a cashflow check now for the months ahead. Between fertiliser, contractor charges, and any weather delays, costs can add up quickly.

If silage season is stretching your cashflow, and you've identified a potential shortfall, Cultivate could help bridge the gap. We offer farmer friendly finance through your local credit union, with flexible repayments, no hidden fees, and decisions made locally.

Call Cultivate today on 1800 839 999 or visit www.Cultivate-CU.ie.

Loans are subject to approval. Terms and conditions apply. If you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating which may limit your ability to access credit in the future.

At the heart of Cavan Credit Union is our community 💙

Our Social & Cultural Fund allows us to give back and support the incredible organisations that make Cavan such a vibrant place to live. We’re delighted to share a round-up of some of our Q1 & Q2 2025/26 recipients — a wide range of groups making a real difference every day.

From First Responders and SOSAD, to Breffni Blues, local Primary & Secondary Schools, Foróige clubs, the Irish Wheelchair Association, Mothers Union and many more — each organisation brings something unique and special to our community, and we’re proud to play a small part in supporting their work.

It’s always wonderful to learn more about each group that applies to the fund, and the passionate people behind them who are at the heart of it all.

Here’s to continuing to give back, support, and grow together 🤝

Tip of the Week: Could a Heat Pump Save You Money This Year?

If your home is still heated by an oil or gas boiler, 2026 might be the year to finally make the switch.

Ireland doubled its heat pump grant at the start of this year, with SEAI support now reaching up to €12,500 per home. That's a significant chunk off an upgrade that can transform how warm and cheap your home is to run.

To start, book a BER assessment with an SEAI-registered assessor. This tells you exactly where your home sits and what's needed before a heat pump can be installed. Most homes need attic and wall insulation first, and there are SEAI grants for those too.

The grants won't cover the full cost, and that's where Greenify comes in, helping to bridge the gap between your SEAI grant and the total cost of your upgrade.

Call 1800 911 797, email [email protected], or visit www.greenify.ie to see how Greenify can help you make savings on your home energy.

Loans are subject to approval. Terms and conditions apply. If you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating which may limit your ability to access credit in the future.

For June’s Wellness Wednesday, our staff enjoyed a lovely morning at Fairgreen Community Gardens – taking time to explore the beautiful gardens and the fantastic new Kitchen & Tea Room that was completed earlier on this year! 👩🏼‍🌾🌱🌼

Over the past year, it’s been a pleasure for us to get to know the dedicated volunteers and community members involved in the garden. Cavan CU were proud to support the development of the Kitchen & Tea Rooms through our Social & Cultural Fund, and it’s wonderful to see first-hand how the space is already benefiting the community.

A special thank you to Ciaran and Séamus for their warm welcome, for sharing the story of the gardens with us, and for facilitating such an enjoyable visit.

Community, wellbeing, and connection are at the heart of what we do, and this visit was a great reminder of the positive impact local projects like Fairgreen Community Gardens have on so many people. 🌱☕💚

Big change to Irish electricity bills are now in place.

From June 2026 a new Dynamic Price Tariff for electricity will be available to customers, allowing prices to vary every half-hour based on wholesale market prices. This aims to help increase the use of renewables by shifting demand to periods of high generation. The tariff is best suited to customers with smart meters who have flexible usage.

Here's the key: the more electric your home is, through EV, heat pump, or solar, the more you stand to gain from cheaper off-peak rates. Greenify loans through your local credit union can help you make those upgrades a reality.

If you are interested in making green home or transport changes, contact us today by phone 1800 911 797 or email [email protected] to find out more about the loan process. 🌎

Visit www.greenify.ie for more information. 💚
