'Seven years on a waiting list is not early intervention'
On Friday morning a protest took place in Cavan Town highlighting the need for more services for children with disabilities.

Sports Focused Deaf Awareness Workshop

Deaf Sports Ireland, in partnership with the Irish Deaf Society, are delighted to host a Sports Focused Deaf Awareness Workshop designed specifically for professionals and volunteers working within the sports sector.

This engaging and interactive workshop aims to increase understanding of Deaf culture, improve communication with Deaf athletes, participants, coaches, officials, and supporters, and promote greater accessibility and inclusion across all areas of sport.

Who Should Attend?

Sports coaches and instructors
Club volunteers and committee members
Sports development officers
Referees and officials
Leisure centre and facility staff
National Governing Body representatives
Community sports leaders
Anyone involved in delivering sport and physical activity.

Benefits of Attending

Participants will gain practical knowledge and confidence to support Deaf individuals in sporting environments, helping to create more welcoming, accessible, and inclusive experiences for everyone.

This free 10 month programme delivered by AHEAD and Employers for Change is designed for medium and large employers who want to take a structured, evidence based approach to disability inclusion in the workplace — and turn insight into action.

Participating organisations will be guided through a self-review of their policy and practice, develop a practical improvement plan, and learn alongside a group of committed peers.

Cruinniú na nÓg is a day of free creativity for children and young people on Saturday 6 June 2026 with events throughout Ireland.

Explore and Wonder is a Cruinniú na nÓg event which is a gentle, sensory-friendly creative day designed especially for children with additional needs and their families.

Explore and Wonder offers a range of creative workshops including printing, bush craft, circus skills, messy play and much more. Children and young people can enjoy a welcoming, inclusive environment where they can explore, express, and discover creativity at their own pace.

Highlights

DiscoWave: A sensory-friendly disco for autistic and neurodivergent children and their families. With gentle lighting, playful beach-themed props, a live DJ and dancer, it offers a calm, welcoming space where families can join in at their own pace.

Sensory SongTales: A gentle music session for children with complex needs and their families.

Marvellous Marbling: Explore the colourful and sensory process of marbling.

Mark Making Mural: A collaborative canvas where everyone is encouraged to contribute. Participants are invited to explore at their own pace, whether that’s making bold marks, soft patterns, or simply enjoying the sensory experience of materials and colour.
