Sod Turned on Ireland’s New National Cricket Centre

A ceremonial sod-turning has marked the official start of work on Ireland’s new National Cricket Centre at the Sport Ireland Campus in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

The project is being described as a major milestone for Irish cricket and a significant investment in the future of the sport. The first phase will include the main field of play, 4,240 spectator seats, a high-performance centre, player and match official facilities, supporting infrastructure and parking.

Government ministers, Sport Ireland representatives and Cricket Ireland officials attended the event, highlighting the importance of the development for players, coaches, supporters and the wider community.

The centre is expected to provide world-class training and competition facilities for Ireland’s international teams, while also supporting grassroots cricket and helping grow participation among young people, women and girls, and diverse communities.

Cricket Ireland CEO Sarah Keane described the project as a “game-changer” for the sport, saying it would transform how cricket operates across the country.

The National Cricket Centre is also expected to strengthen Ireland’s ability to host major international events, including the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2030. The centre is due for completion in 2029.
