Our Creative Writers had a great morning in Marshes Library and St. Patrick’s Cathedral today as they attended The Bloomsday 2026 Young Writers Awards Ceremony.

Arklow CBS was well represented with two finalists and eleven highly commended students out of 900 short stories entries across Ireland. 👏

A great day for Arklow C.B.S young writers and their teacher Ms McElheron. Thank you also to Mr McElheron for accompanying on the day.

Well done to our senior chess team today as they battled against over four hundred players in St Andrew’s College Chess Tournament.

Each of the boys had numerous victories and put in some great performances against tough competition.

Many thanks to Ms Battye for accompanying and supporting the boys.

After a gruelling election campaign which saw the candidates tour the length and breadth of the school outlining their vision, we have a new head boy and vice-head boys.

Congratulations to Peter Lappin (head boy), Philip Michta and Ruairí O’Neill (vice-head boys)👏🏻
The boys were presented with their badge in front of the school community after mass today, followed by some words of wisdom from our new Head Boy Peter.

We would also like to congratulate all candidates who were nominated by their peers and made inspirational speeches in front of staff members last week. It is sure to be just the beginning of their leadership journeys!

We wish the boys best of luck in their roles for the year.

Today we came together as a school community to celebrate our beginning of year school mass, marking the start of a new school year.

A sincere thank you to Fr. Martin for celebrating the mass with us and for his warm welcome and thoughtful words. We would also like to thank our Music Department for providing such beautiful music throughout the ceremony, everyone who took part, and of course, our students for their wonderful respect and participation.

The ceremony concluded with a meaningful reflection reminding us of the importance of being true to ourselves and embracing what makes each of us unique.

We hope everyone who attended found the mass a positive and meaningful way to begin the new school year.

A little taste of German tradition in TY German! 🍬 🇩🇪
Ms Phelan’s TY German class explored the German tradition of the Schultüte by designing and creating their very own school cones!
Traditionally, children in Germany receive a Schultüte filled with sweets, small gifts and school supplies on their first day of school — a special way to make starting school an exciting occasion.
Our TY students put their own creative spin on this tradition while learning more about German culture. 🍭 🇩🇪

Basketball! 🏀

Arklow CBS had two wins from two games against Gorey Educate Together to start off the basketball season at u16 and u19 this week.

Our u16s started strong and finished strong and won a competitive game 43 22. Faolain Merrigan was the MVP with 16 points.

The u19s had a comprehensive victory, they started slow but once they got their eye in there were some excellent scores both individual and team. Scott Hannon was the MVP with 9 points, but with 50 points scored it was a clear sign of the depth of shooting talent displayed on the day.

We are delighted to introduce the return of our Throwback Thursday series. We’re getting off to a good start with these baby faced 1st Years of 2012!

We are delighted to announce and to celebrate the success of so many of our students in the Bloomsday 2026 Young Authors Creative Writing Competition in conjunction with The Museum of Childhood Ireland! ✍️

5th Year Student Matt Harkin has been announced as a senior finalist.

3rd Year Student Oscar Fitzgibbon was been selected as an intermediate finalist.
