These beautiful creatures need our protection 💚
Did you see the dog otter catching his lunch in our main pond?
Every week should be biodiversity week! 🐸💚
We love are 6 new ponds on plot 2. This ‘S’ shaped one is my favourite 🤩
Thanks to ReFarm Wicklow for their amazing funding support 🙏🙏💚🐸
We had 3 super events on at Wildacres over the last week finishing with our sell-out Gardening for Biodiversity Workshop yesterday. We met so many wonderful people wanting to explore how they can bring wildlife back in abundance in their area.
We’re feeling the groundswell and it’s amazing. More and more people wanting to reconnect with nature and protect it.
Great to be part of a community of change-makers. 😃

It’s World Bee Day! 🐝 By only cutting pathways through a garden lawn, allows wildflowers to bloom for pollinators such as our bees, hoverflies and butterflies to forage on for pollen and nectar. 🌺
This photo taken at Wildacres, is of a pair of Osmia bicornis Red Mason Bees mating 🐝 🐝 💚
One third of our solitary bees and bumblebees are at risk of extinction in Ireland. They need our urgent help…..
They need:
1. food - pollen and nectar from wildflowers
2. clean water - create a wildlife pond
3. Shelter - cavities, rough grass and ground nesting opportunities eg bare earth banks
4. healthy environment - no chemicals ‼️
Say no to any ‘cides’ in your garden - no herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, molluscicides……

At 6:09 this morning the male Great tit brought a juicy caterpillar to the female.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. Our bees in the Wildacres apiary, produce honey in tune with nature as we have a small number of hives and tens of thousands of native flowering plants 🌸 on the nature reserve full of pollen and nectar.
We are proud members of
and are grateful of support from the Department of Agriculture food and the marine.
Come join us!
Bonus….You’ll get to see the Sand martins nesting in our new Sand Martin nesting Bank.

What an honour to be interviewed by the brilliant Ecologist, Broadcaster and Author Anja Murray with her super sound recordist Brían. We spent a beautiful sunny morning at Wildacres chatting about the natural world 🐸🦎🦉🐝🪲🐞🐛🦊🦇🌸🌳💚☀️
We took a route along our Redcross river walk, through the Wildacres native woodland, past a multitude of ponds, kilometres of hedgerow with hawthorn bursting into flower, the Orchard heaving with apple blossom, into the wildflower meadow alive with orange tip butterflies, and we finished up at the Big Green Barn with a cuppa while watching the Sand martins flitting in and out of their burrows in our new Sand Martin Nesting Bank!
We observed thousands of tadpoles in the shallows of the ponds, discovered plenty of frogs hiding out in grassy vegetation 🐸🐸🐸 and were lucky to see several smooth newts swimming in one of our micro ponds! 🦎
If you haven’t read Anja’s books yet, we would highly recommend both ‘Wild Embrace’ and ‘Frog Routes and Polkadot Newts’.
Anja has a wonderful way with words and uses that talent to share her passion and knowledge of the natural world so eloquently through her books, on the weekly Nature File and over the years on a variety of TV programmes.
We’ve some lovely events coming up over the next 3 Saturdays at Wildacres so check out the link in bio to our what’s on page if you’d like to join us for an inspiring morning in nature.
All workshop and tour ticket sale income goes towards biodiversity restoration and education 💚
