One of so many, once magnificent trees, dangerous and felled due to Ash Dieback. Our landscape is going to look very different in a few years time when all our Ash is gone 😢

Pruning works - it's amazing the amount of light a garden can get back with proper pruning. Great days work, despite a napping trainee 😆 She'll learn. Homeward bound ☀️☀️☀️

Ash dieback has never been more prevalent than it has this season 😕 In some parts of the country Ash makes up the vast majority of our roadside trees. A fungal pathogen, originating in Asia, first introduced to Ireland in 2012, is set to wipe out all native Ash within the next two decades. Research is underway to establish genotypes tolerant to dieback but the sad fact is that current Ash will soon be gone from our landscape. Along a 2km stretch of roadway 68 Ash trees, from young to mature, are all battling the disease. Not one healthy tree remains. Severely diseased and dangerous trees, in an advanced stage, are easy to spot, like the ones below. First signs of disease are a little harder to detect, seemingly healthy trees will begin to show bare branches. A study in the UK was hopeful to prove that some semi mature Ash may be able to withstand the disease and recover however latest results from that study have proven otherwise. Imagine our landscape without Ash? When you realise how many there actually are it's an awful prospect indeed.

Dead and dangerous trees often house bees, beekeeper to the rescue - queen located, hive relocated, all's well that ends well 🐝🐝
