Marit Pauwels

Welcoming Marit Pauwels to her upcoming residency at DEVFTO Printmaking Institute, Ubud.

Born and based in Leiden, the Netherlands, Marit Pauwels is an analogue photographer and communications professional whose practice explores memory, identity, and place through photography. She holds a BSc in Arts and Humanities from University College Roosevelt, studied Photography and Styling at Akademie Vogue, and completed an MSc in Communication, specializing in Film and Branding, at the University of Amsterdam.

Through analogue photography and archival material, Marit explores her Dutch-Indonesian family history and the ways memory, loss, and inherited experiences continue to shape later generations. Her current work combines family archives with contemporary analogue photography, creating space for personal histories to unfold through image-making.

During her residency at DEVFTO, Marit is experimenting with alternative photographic processes such as cyanotype and the gum-oil process, exploring how material, chemistry, and printmaking can become integral to the stories she tells while expanding the technical and conceptual dimensions of her practice.

We look forward to seeing the new narratives and material explorations that emerge from her time in the studio at DEVFTO.

Maris Hughes is an interdisciplinary, multi-sensory artist living at the intersection of sound, stone, and image Her practice is rooted in vibrational intelligence weaving energy medicine and the subtle, pulsating architectures of the body and Earth. With a background as an energy healer and sound alchemist, Maris engages the elemental world as both material and harmonic collaborator. Each offering - whether sonic, ;culptural, or visual - emerges as a field of resonance, inviting memory to rise througl texture, tone, and precision. Her work is ultimately about coherence: the return of inner and outer harmony through presence and possibility.
