🌾 The Name & Meaning
“Jatiluwih” comes from two Balinese words:
• Jati = real, true, genuine
• Luwih = beautiful, special, excellent
Together, it means “truly beautiful”, which fits perfectly with its endless green rice terraces flowing down the Batukaru mountain slopes.
🌾 History & UNESCO Heritage
• Jatiluwih’s rice terraces date back more than 500 years. They were shaped by local farmers using the subak system, a traditional Balinese irrigation network that goes back to the 9th century.
• The subak is not just about water management—it’s a spiritual and social system tied to Balinese Hindu philosophy, called Tri Hita Karana (harmony between people, nature, and the gods).
• Because of its cultural and environmental value, Jatiluwih became part of the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2012.
🌾 A Cool Story: How Water is Sacred
• Legend says that the idea of subak came from Rsi Markandeya, a Hindu priest who brought spiritual teachings to Bali from Java in the 11th century. He taught that water was a gift from the gods, and the rice fields should be tended not only with labor but also with prayers and offerings.
• That’s why at Jatiluwih, you’ll find small water temples scattered across the fields. Farmers believe the success of the harvest depends as much on rituals and harmony with nature as on hard work.
🌾 Fun Facts
• Jatiluwih stretches over 600 hectares of rice fields—making it one of the largest rice terraces in Bali.
• You can walk or cycle through marked trails that go deep into the terraces, with Mount Batukaru in the background.
• Unlike more touristy Tegallalang near Ubud, Jatiluwih is still peaceful and feels like “the real Bali.”

Aling Aling isn’t just one waterfall — it’s four unique ones hidden deep in Bali’s northern jungle 🌿💧
Each fall has its own character:
🌀 Aling Aling Waterfall – The tallest at 35 meters, with a powerful, sacred flow. You can’t swim directly under it out of respect, but just standing nearby is awe-inspiring.
🌊 Kroya Waterfall – A smaller 5-meter fall that’s popular for sliding and cliff jumping. We skipped the slide this time but loved watching others take the plunge!
💦 Kembar Waterfall – Known as the “Twin Waterfalls,” with two streams falling side by side into a serene pool. Super photogenic and peaceful.
🌿 Pucuk Waterfall – The tallest jump spot at around 15 meters — definitely for the brave ones! (Not us… this time 😅)
We didn’t jump or slide — just explored, breathed in the jungle air, and soaked up the raw beauty.
This place is a perfect mix of adrenaline and peace — highly recommend if you’re heading to northern Bali.

We stayed in Batur for quite a long time because of the weather. After the stoms we continue the ride around the island again, cutting across the north and preparing for the second volcano: Bratan.
We took the backroads and found some really beutiful people and places along the way. We also stopped for another little riding shoot and the photos really turned out amazing! Staying in Gitgit before ascending to Bratan! ☺️✨🏍️💨🗺️☀️📸

From sea level to 2000 meters in under 30 minutes — on two custom bikes! That definitely raised a few eyebrows 🏍️💨
Me and left Amed and rode along the northern shore. We took on the northern route up to Batur Village, accidentally caused a traffic jam, and had some local heroes step in to help when things got a bit… problematic 😅✌️
Tight curves, epic views, and the kind of ride you’ll be laughing about for weeks!
Next time we might bring a flag that says “Caution: questionable decisions in progress”. 😂🌋

Mount Batur Facts
⛰️ Located in northeastern Bali, inside a massive ancient caldera formed by a supervolcanic eruption about 29,000 years ago.
🌋 Mount Batur is an active volcano, with the last eruption happening in 2000 — it still steams today!
☀️ The sunrise trek is around 2 hours and starts in the early morning — one of Bali’s most popular hikes.
🌕 You can also do full moon hikes or sunset tours, with epic views over Lake Batur and Mount Agung.
⚫ The landscape is wild — black lava fields, lush jungle, and panoramic crater views.
⛩️ Considered sacred by locals. Many Balinese people perform ceremonies and offerings here.
💦 Nearby is Toya Bungkah hot springs, perfect for a post-hike soak with volcano views.
