Sanur Shows its Teeth on Day 1 of the RUSTY Rumble in Da Jungle

Friday May 2, 2008 - Bangsal Beach, Sanur: Yesterday afternoon’s bump up in swell size turned into a heaving seething barrelfest this morning, as daybreak slowly unveiled solid 6 foot sets using the treacherous coral heads of Sanur Reef as a launching pad to throw up some very solid and intimidating barrels, perfect for the start of the Rusty Rumble in Da Jungle 2008.

And just the kind of conditions Rusty GM and Contest Director Kane Faint was frothing for and taking full advantage of, by the way. “I surfed until after dark here last night, and again before daybreak this morning, and I can’t wait to get out there again for my heat. This is what Sanur Reef is all about,” he said with a huge grin as the horn hooted to start the contest.

The first heat got underway just after 7 am, and though it was a bit cloudy early, it was actually a benefit for the judges, who had an easier time seeing without the usual blazing sun scorching their eyeballs. Happy with some sizable surf, in Heat 1 Made Awan got straight into a couple of barrels and was stoked to come away with the first heat win and advance to the 2nd round.

Not to be outdone, Kane Faint got himself a 9+ in Heat 5 to win his heat. Practice makes perfect they say. Some of the contestants looked to be intimidated a bit by the size and reputation of this break, but others took it on with relish and got every bit of juice out of each opportunity. Kombong, Kopling, Koming and Ketut Yuliarta were good examples of the dominant surfers in Round One.

The surf was still pumping, although not as many bombs as earlier, and there was no wind yet at the start of Round 2, which started of at just before 10 am. some of the bigger sets were a bit fat, but that meant that the smaller more critical inside section was where the paydirt was, and in the first heat Made Awan found both the outside and the inside for a double barrel heat winner, netting him a 9+ score from the judges.

RUSTY “GAME OF SK8 2007” ROCKIN' UP MONAS

Sabtu 18 Agustus 2007, disaksikan tingginya monas yang menjulang, 75 skaters dari berbagai kota di Indonesia were ready for the action “RUSTY GAME OF SK8 2007”. Acara yang digelar di Lapangan Monas, Jakarta, RUSTY kali ini punya satu misi khusus, guess what ? Yaitu untuk mensosialisasikan skateboarding life di Ibukota tercinta ini. Actually Its hard to imagine di kota segede Jakarta ini there's no skatepark, even not a single one.

Teriknya sinar matahari, ditambah special performance dari FALL Band dan juga ICT3RU, Lapangan Monas was getting hot 'n hot bangeetz! There were 20 skaters yang berhasil lolos masuk ke round 2, yang dibagi dalam 6 heat. Dimana ketiga rider skate Rusty berhasil lolos di round 2 ini. Ada Reno Pratama, Pevi Permana & Izad dari RUSTY, Indra Kubon, Domdom, Ryan, Genta dari Volcom, Agung HB dari Oakley, Firman Endo dari Quiksilver, Marlon/Rangga dan beberapa rider skate dari sponsor skate such as Abi, Daryl, Eric, Yogi, Chico, Gea, Dangoz etc.

Pertarungan dua skater tricky, Daryl dan David memang sudah dinanti-nanti, tapi sayang mereka sudah bertemu di round-round awal pertarungan ini dimenangkan oleh Daryl. Pada kontes kali ini rupanya trick-trick yang digunakan sudah lumayan Expert (sulit), misalnya Double flip sudah gak kelihatan asing, apalagi trick dari Ciko Kickflip dengan posisi kaki menyilang waktu landing, sempat bikin penonton terheran-heran sampai-sampai Asmi sang MC bilang kalau itu namanya Trick Kickflip meres "Biji".
Di round 3, 6 skaters yang berhasil lolos dibagi dalam 2 heat. Reno Pratama dari RUSTY, Gea, serta Indra Kubon dari Volcom memulai battle mereka di heat pertama. Sedangkan Agung HB dari Oakley mesti berhadapan dengan Ryan dari Volcom, serta Dagoz di heat kedua.
Dari Round-round awal Agung HB memang sudah kelihatan lebih siap dari skater-skater yang lain. Trick-trick dasar tapi konsisten memang bikin skater lain agak canggung dan menganggap enteng, Agung sangat diuntungkan dari hal-hal semacam itu. Cukup dengan Bigspin Shoveit, B/S atau F/S 360 cabalerial sudah bikin skater lain mati langkah.
