Have you ever wondered how our team learn to lay reef stars?
The team measures around existing healthy coral on the reef so when they install reed stars they don’t damage any healthy coral, then they use those measurements to lay the reef stars on the sand like pieces of a puzzle. Here’s MSS’s senior marine consultant Noel Janetski teaching the team. 🪸
Over time after many builds you learn the knack for fitting reef stars around structures without having to do test runs!

Exciting news from our brilliant Science Officer, !
We are thrilled to announce that an innovation from the Hope Grows project has been recognized as one of the top 10 by the prestigious NetExplo Innovation Forum, supported by ! Out of thousands of technology innovations aimed at environmental and social good, this recognition highlights the exceptional work done by our team.
The project involved recording healthy and degraded reefs near Hope Reef, training artificial intelligence to differentiate between the two, and using the AI to monitor the success of MARRS reef restoration efforts. This groundbreaking work has the potential to revolutionize the way we monitor and restore our precious coral reefs.
📣 Tomorrow, Ben will provide a QR code for the Sheba Hope Grows community to vote for this incredible innovation at the annual Innovation Forum in Paris. Let's show our support and get ready to vote! Keep an eye on our socials for the QR code and let's help make a difference together!
Congratulations again to Ben and the entire Hope Grows team! We couldn't be prouder. 👏 💙

The 2nd Hope Grows Community vote is LIVE! 🎉
Our Virtual Reef holders have been given the chance to choose where the $20,000 they’ve raised will be going. Which option would you choose?
Option 1: We’ll use $20,000 solely to install another 800 Reef Stars, which equates to 12,000 coral fragments being out planted (on Salisi Besar). This will be led by qualified members of the Mars Sustainable Solutions team.
Option 2: We’ll use $10,000 to fund a MARRS restoration training program for 2 local community members of Salisi Besar, (which includes a base salary, a PADI Open Water Course, alongside MARRS competency training). The other $10,000 would then fund the installation of 400 reef stars - or 6,000 coral fragments, lead by this newly trained community team, again, on the original Salisi Besar HOPE reef site.
If you’re a Virtual Reef holder and you haven’t voted yet, check your emails and hit the button! The results will be announced next week 🪸
