Seratus tahun lalu, siapa pun yang diberi label “pribumi” oleh Belanda konon melintas di jalan ini dengan kepala otomatis menunduk bukan karena sopan, tapi karena zaman memang mengharuskannya. Aroma kesenjangan sosial dan rasisme kala itu begitu kental, seperti parfum wajib era kolonial.

Untungnya, itu semua tinggal cerita. Hari ini patut kita syukuri: kita berdiri di tanah sendiri, menikmati ruang dan keistimewaan dari bangsa sendiri. Setidaknya sekarang, kalau jalan-jalan di Braga sambil menunduk, itu karena main ponsel atau cari sudut foto, bukan lagi karena takut sama Kompeni.
