The vacation house is located in the rural area of island Drvenik Mali.

The existing terrain is characterized by a natural cascading karst landscape with approximatley one meter of height difference per level, which served as inspiration for the concept of a ground-floor house articulated in gentle cascades. The project is oriented towards optimal positioning in relation to the attractive panoramic sea views and the layered overlapping of the island landscape, which further justifies the rotation od the volume.

In accordance with the location and mediterranean landscape, the house is shaped using stone, polished concrete with terrazzo effect in the exterior, machine-applied beige plaster with a rustic expression, and an interior enriched with wooden textures, further emphasizing the authentic island meditettanean atmosphere.

From the living room, the main communication is via the staircase to the lowest level of the outdoor terrace covered with a pergola. A water tank is located in the extension of the spacious terrace. The external stairs in front of the living area are designed as an additional place to sit and enjoy the undisturbed view of the sea, in the shade, in the spirit of the mediterranean ambience.

By removing the classic corridors, the spaciousness of the central part was further emphasized, while the inner recess of the core enabled the discreet concealment of the side entrances to the other rooms.

The house is organized on three cascading levels interconnected by stone cores. The cores are located on both sides of the central public space, with service facilities on one side and private rooms or bedrooms on the other. The central space has an open floor plan and is the center of social events and communication. The offset of the stone cores allows all bedrooms to have the same view of the sea and direct access to the terraces.

In this concept story, we were focused on capturing the best and most attractive panoramic view of the sea and various overlapping landscapes in the direction of Trogir, i.e. towards the northeast, which is the mail reason for rotating the house. In addition to the panoramic framing of the view, the biggest advantages of rotating were that we got the largest possible surface area of the house due to the irregular border of the plot, as well as greater privacy, i.e. protection of the view from the neighboring houses, and for the sake of more and a wider area, we adjusted the terrain on several cascading levels up to 0.70 m, which is more sense than one level.

The found condition of the plot is natural cascade karst that “falls” every 0.5-1 meter difference, which we took as inspiration for the cascade concept.

And the bicycle storage is also separated and lowered to the lowest level and connected to the outdoor garden. From the living space, the main connection is created via a staircase with the lowest level of the outdoor terrace, partly covered by a pergola, and a water tank can be placed under it, which is also the reason for the large terrace.

In the central level, there is a living space facing the sea view, and it contains a “ready-made” tribune for sitting and socializing opoosite the kitchen, and at the same time it forms a connection and communication with it. From this level you can access the bathroom, toilet and dressing room (with a build-in warderobe) and the remaining bedrooms, one of which is lowered to the lowest level.

The outdoor stairs in front od the living area can also serve as “stands” for sitting and enjoying the view towards the sea and the shade, as a mediterranean touch.

In order for the bedrooms to have the same view of the sea and the exit to the terraces, the reason why the stone cores are offset from each other, and on the other side the exit from the storage room for tools and storage to the garden.
