Why do I love taking care of my engine?
I don’t know it feels natural
Here's a snippet of why my system of teaching works — full video up on my site, but let me break it down:
1. We set goals and build a team
Before anything, we get to know each other. Share, laugh, talk about your goals. The goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable enough to make mistakes — because that's how you actually learn. Strangers turn into family in a matter of days.
2. I meet you at YOUR level
Not just your sailing experience — how you think, what drives you, what you want to achieve. Before the week even starts, me and you have a conversation so I can build the week around you.
3. You're the captain
You make the decisions and face the consequences. This is called self-determination theory — and it's the only way things actually click and stick. I give you the freedom to work things out yourself, because one day all eyes will turn to you on that boat.
4. 24-hour instruction
I'm with you morning to night, all week. We also reflect at the end of every day — you physically write it down — because if you don't clear time to reflect, everything you learned just slides out.

Man Overboard on a Catamaran — the full procedure:
Shout "Man overboard!" and point — don't stop pointing
GPS fix (eyes stay on the water, not the screen)
Breathe. Find the wind. Visualize your approach before you move
Furl the headsail, turn on the engines
Come in at ~40° windward of the MOB — from your visibility side
Slow down on the final leg. Don't rush it
Stop next to him, make contact — line, boat hook, or swim to him
Bring him up — ladder, spare halyard, dinghy, whatever it takes
Assess. Warm him up. Don't hesitate to call Mayday
The best MOB maneuver is prevention — brief your crew, wear your life jackets, stay aware.
